    I have a crestliner 2001 17.5′ sportfish….

like to take it to hudson st. croix this weekend but weather broadcast show it will be blowing 13-17 mph in the morning…and higher past noon. I will be doing early fishing and be done at 10 am before the wind get too high in the 17+

any advice from some experience boater that i should find something else to do and stay away from the river?

    No problem.

I’ve slept out there countless nights on a 16′ boat anchored in 40mph winds.

The idea is to get out before 10 or at the latest at the dock by 11. Having been out there with high wind lately, but i will be half a mile south of the 94 bridge incase the wind did pickup i can be safely back to loading.

I would fish. I live in North Dakota and if I didn’t go if it was blowing 13 to 17 MPH I would never get to fish. I use a rule of thumb. If I have to turn my bow mount over 6 out of 10 I back troll with a drift sock. I fish lake Sakakawea 99 percent of the time in a 18 foot crestline. I have been out when it is blowing 25 to 30, but really don’t care for it. It beats you up getting places and you have to run slow so you still have your kidneys when you are done. Learning to fish in the wind can get frustrating, but here you have to other wise you would never get to fish. Also it seems here that the wind really turns the fish on. It pushes the bait fish to one side or the other and to be honest it makes it easy. Fish the wind word side and it can be really good fishing.

Went fishing on saturday morning. Got to the boat launch at 6:30 am… way later then was planned. I thought i was crazy to go on a windy day but….man there is a bass tourney on that day. Lot of bass boat waiting in line to get unloaded…….

fish not really biting…was hopping to get a few white bass and walleye but instead..got sheep head. …. wind and wave was pretty bad as it get bass 9 am. Can’t anchor in 1 spot……if i didn’t take kid with me i would have stay a bit longer…..wave and wind was kinda annoying.
