Is it just me or has it been really tough to connect to IDO lately? It’s never been a lightning fast site to load but recently I can’t get on more times than I can. Is it just me or are others having problems?

Yes, been going on for months and its been getting far worse lately.
November 14, 2023 at 8:05 am #2235704Yeah it’s been a struggle lately. It seems like it is what it is though. I have been on another site a little lately too and had problems getting it to load.
November 14, 2023 at 8:06 am #2235705Some days its fine, some days its incredibly slow. It was going very slow last week on my phone.

November 14, 2023 at 6:51 pm #2235889Why did it get put in questions & answers? Somebody covering shoddy work up?
November 14, 2023 at 7:16 pm #2235891It’s because you had questions. Unfortunately, no one has answers though.
November 14, 2023 at 7:37 pm #2235893I suspect some of you guys are downloading to much porn on your computers.
November 14, 2023 at 8:24 pm #2235899It’s definitely been having more and more issues lately. I wish I knew more about complex website management so I could offer to help keep ‘er up and running.
A couple key members haven’t even logged in in 2 months.

There is no such thing as too much Dutch.

No, just moved to the correct forum.
Description of this Forum at the top of the page:
QUESTION AND ANSWER

November 15, 2023 at 4:20 pm #2236045It seems to be getting more difficult almost each time I try and Log on. Today I think it took me 4 or 5 attempts before it connected. I feel like one of these times, its just not going to work. Oh well, that’s life.
November 16, 2023 at 7:39 am #2236087Maybe you can change the name of this forum to “Questions”.
This^^
I think we all understand that since James pulled the plug on the show that things might not be quite the same here. But it would help all of us and there still seems to be quite a few of us, if we knew that things are being worked on or if it is just hey we left the lights on for you guys and it is what it is. This forum has been really great for the years I have been here, there is a great community here that would kinda suck to see it just fade away.
stjoeguyPosts: 116November 16, 2023 at 5:48 pm #2236273Putting a question where we all read it (Gen Disc) and finding it moved this obscure place looks fishy. I like this site too but come on Jon, tell us what’s going on. Don’t turn this into another HSO, a great site that barely exists anymore.
November 20, 2023 at 9:08 am #2236734First, if you look at all of the recent posts in this forum, they are related to site performance or site connectivity questions. Again, this is why your post was moved here. It will make it easier to see these all in one area. (Also, posts with other topics are moved out of this forum.)
Both BK and myself have moderator access. It gives us the option to move, edit or remove posts. We don’t have access to website coding. We can’t “Fix” anything.
James Holst owns IDO and manages site fixes and updates. Unfortunately, James has not logged into IDO for over 2 months. You can see this by taking a look at his User Profile here:
http://www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/members/jamesholst/
Once James checks back in I’m hopeful he will address these user issues.
Hope this help answer your question.
On a personal note, I also share your concern for keeping IDO up and running. I would miss not having IDO around. Have met a lot of great people here.

November 20, 2023 at 9:26 am #2236738This site is going to end up like Fishing Minnesota or Lake State fishing if something is not done.
November 20, 2023 at 10:05 am #2236744The trick is to state your question in the form of an answer. Like reverse Jeopardy. That way it stays in the general discussion forum.

Jon, thanks for responding, while it does not help. I respect you for at least answering the questions. Someone closer to James could maybe reach out. I imagine he still makes some money from the forum?
November 20, 2023 at 11:18 am #2236768Thank you Jon, and John with an h is right, anybody know James or does he just not give a shoot anymore?
November 20, 2023 at 11:23 am #2236769Well James is the Marketing Manager at NORSK I believe. Maybe we can email them to pass along the message. LOL

DeucesPosts: 5268November 20, 2023 at 12:21 pm #2236791Can’t imagine the forums were ever a big money maker, sure some ads here and there but those don’t add up to much, hopefully cover operating costs and some beer and minnow money. Perhaps selling site traffic data but unsure how much thats worth to marketing folks a bunch of fishing dudes arguing about social issues and the occasional fishing report. At least when there was IDO as a whole the forum costs could be written off of taxes but now that is gone I’d be willing to bet its 100% funded by the big man at the top.
Alot of assumptions on my end here.
I gave the forums one year of life after announcement, and that was February…. tick tock
Since it seems likely an end to a damned good run it only seems fitting to have an IDO awards. Member votes of course. Trying to think of the categories….
Best troll
Most likely to have freezers full of illegal fish
Most likely to be a 32yr old jobless bum living in his gmas basement
Biggest river rat
Nicest boat
Most likely to have a zombie shelter
Biggest party pooper
Most annoying
This list could get interesting

I don’t see any ads anymore since the announcement was made about the future of IDO. They might still make some income on the YouTube videos if ads remain there, but beyond that I’d be curious to know how you think of this forum is generating revenue.
