Wondering if ice lines really are different than regular lines. Like Berkley XL 4 or 6 pound vs. their Micro Ice 4 or 6 pound lines. What is different about them?

If they really are different, what would be the best ice line in 4 and 6 pound tests for spinning reels size 500 and 750?

Suffix ice magic.Ice line is supposed to be more manageable in the cold temps. The suffix has been avery good line for me.

Ice line is different. It’s 1/3 the yardage and twice the price!

I do use “ice specific” line though. Sufix ice magic in 2# and 3#. Good stuff.

In addition to whats been offered already, ice line has “ice” in front of everything and is similar to “new and improved”. The packaging is way cooler too because ice anglers are gullible and easily taken in with pretty packaging.

Ive had great satisfaction with Asso heavy ice flourocarbon but its hard to find in the weight like.
Had bad luck with suffix magic coiling off the reel.
I see suffix has a flourocarbon, I be giving that a try as I do like suffix line for open water.

Let me ask a parallel question; Do you believe there is a difference in “summer gasoline” verses “winter gasoline”? Most folks will say; Heck yes there is a difference. Yet these same folks will deny that there can be a difference in fishing line, go figure.

I believe there can be and there are, different “chemical recipes” used for “ice line” and “summer line”. Are ALL lines different? probably not. Are SOME lines different? most definitely.

pretty sure ice line has a coating on it to prevent water from sticking on it, and in ice braids case a coating to help with water absorption.

I found myself pondering this same question while staring at spools and spools of line at Runnings today. Basically “ice” lines cost 1/3 more. Much to my hesitation I Ended up with a couple spools of ice Magic, and 832 ice braid in various sizes. I hope it works.

I’ve noticed a difference when fishing outside below 32. In a heated house it doesn’t seem to matter. This was trilene xl compared to trilene micro ice

All you guys thinking there is a difference in mono are mistaken. Check the actual line diameter of what you buy. You will see differences in diameter. The lighter diameter is more supple in cold weather. Much goes the same with fluorocarbon lines. Some braids have a outer coating to prevent water buildup which freezes the line faster.
