Is Anybody Else Sick of Winter Already?

Yes I am. Could have something to do with getting 5 inches of snow on May 20th this year and getting the next snow fall in October.

Winter is really not my favorite since I was a child. There’s this feeling of sadness outside and inside the bouse.

I’ve been retired about 2 years now. I enjoy winter much more now that I can pick and choose when I want to go out in it with the exception of having to go out and plow after the snow. We strongly considered the snowbird things and have friends that go to Arizona and own some acreage there and offered to sell us a couple acres at a nice price. But we never could get ourselves to pull the trigger on it. Last spring we decided to buy lake property about a hour from our house so that killed the snowbird idea.

I love ice fishing so that had a lot to do with it and it’s something I can do with my 3 adult boys and son in law. Our lake place isn’t year around and no one plows ice roads so I still do my fishing on Red or LOTW. I like some of the smaller local lakes here but now with all the snow they are not accessible and probably won’t be the rest of the season. Good for the fish I guess a season with no fishing pressure certainly won’t hurt.

Best thing I enjoy now is I go up to Red or LOTW during the week and come home for the weekend when all the masses invade the lakes. Stepping outside the house at night and not seeing a sea of lights and strobes and not hearing drunk people carry on or people driving 50mph on the ice road is particularly nice on a Wednesday night.

The older I get the less I need winter. My idea of a good winter is snow flurries on Christmas Eve for aesthetics, then 40 degree evenings and nights with mid-70’s during the day. A bad winter is two evenings of snow flurries.

I will take winter over summer any day of the week. The older I get the more I enjoy winter.

Was sick of winter back in July when I even had a small thought of winter.

I LOVE winter….on Christmas Island (1300 South of Hawaii). Forecast today is 86 but with the breeze it’s perfect!

IDO helps me get through the cold months.

Two or Four more years and I wanna be out of here (key word “wanna”) at least for the winter. I have know idea how 63 years old snuck up on me so fast! Seems it was a very short time ago when I was walleye fishing on the St Croix. Least I’ve become wiser.

Loved winter when I was a kid.

Hated winter when I worked construction.

Love winter again now that I don’t have to work outside.

X2 what Crappie said about stepping out of a shack at night and looking up. toast

I bought 2 snowmobiles about a month ago and figured that would pretty much kill any chance of snow for this winter. I guess my luck is turning:)!……….

Parts of winter are enjoyable, but that list shrinks with age. Use to love winter. Now most everything about it is a giant pain in the tuchus and just gets more annoying with each passing year.

The change of seasons is nice and it’s great having 2 in mn, winter and summer. Really miss spring and fall.

This is the first winter where our daughter (she will be 2 in April) is able to go outside and have fun. You can already tell when she is getting antsy from being inside too long, so we bundle up and let her play in the snow! Pretty soon we will be getting her out in the fish house too, so I’m pretty excited for that as well. She had lots of fun on Red last year, but pretty much sat on the back bed and played with her toys all weekend. I WILL say that I’m not crazy about this amount of snow so early. We totally skipped over that period of early ice where a guy can pull his portable across the local lakes no problem by hand. Time to break out the ’87 Super Jag and let her out to play!

I’d have to say that winter is probably my favorite season. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, hockey, snow forts, etc. The ONLY thing I struggle with is the daylight hours. Dark when I leave & dark when I get home.. But, as stated earlier, the days will be getting longer in just a week or so.

As far as the snow, it can slow down anytime now! I had 2″ on the ground before Thanksgiving. Then came the big storm & I ended up with 15″ out of that one. Then another 6″ this last Monday & I’m guessing some where around that much more when I get home today. That’s almost 30″ in 2 weeks!!! If this keeps up, there won’t be much ice fishing & a lot more snowmobiling!

I haven’t even been able to clear the pond once yet this year. Kids are itching to get out there. A lot more fun to be had this winter.

I’m sick of shoveling already. By the time I get everything clear we get hit with more snow. I get burnt out on the snow if it’s not a little spaced out at least.

I love ice fishing but it does frustrate me sometimes-in my boat I can go almost anywhere on almost any day on any lake in the state. On foot I am very limited-I could buy something but what? Some lakes a wheeler is more convenient, others a sled, some say a wheeler with tracks-and they can all get STUCK, the one with tracks is the least likely (arguably) but if that gets stuck it is extra hard to dig out-AAARGH. In the summer if I am supposed to fish on Saturday and we get a big rain the wednesday before, I do not care a bit- Ice fishing a big snow could mess things up or effect what you do for weeks.

That place is on my short list. Would love to fish gt’s from shore.

I cross country ski and ride a fat bike but don’t necessarily love winter. 2 week fishing in Costa Rica and a family trip to Florida helps me get through. As for ice fishing I really enjoy getting out in March and April for Lakers. Lots of daylight then.

I love winter, or more accurately, I love the changing seasons. It does kinda blow if snow ruins the ice, or lack of snow ruins the skiing etc, but whatever. Almost every year I head north to that wonderful first snow to hunt deer. I love snowblowing waaaaay more that mowing. Change is good. We have artificial sunlight, vitamin D, and all sorts of fancy science stuff to help if you cant get outside enough. I am of the camp that if you dont enjoy it, we live in a time where it is often an option to move elsewhere.

I guess I truly feel sorry for anyone stuck where they don’t want to live. It’s your life… live it how you want.

I have small kids and I can not think of a better place to grow up or grow old. The change in seasons keeps things interesting.

I asked my kids to pick a favorite season and they said there’s always something fun to do and something to look forward to… so the answer was, no they didn’t have a favorite.

Totally. I enjoy the changing of the seasons too. I really enjoy going from winter to spring and summer to fall. Seems like spring and fall have shorter windows of time lately though.

I love the changing seasons… and I even like winter… to a point. I enjoy ice fishing, skiing and other aspects of winter. However, it’s a fine line to me and I feel we’ve had a HEAVY dose of winter the last couple years.

Snowmobiling…. I don’t know. I owned a sled for years and did enjoy the occasional ride but mainly used it for ice fishing. I never got into trail riding really…. but maybe a brand new sled would help change that, LOL!

I’m tired of the sudden transitions, hopefully it’s a gradual one for next spring? This fall was virtually non-existent.

Bundled my kids up at 6:30 last night and took them out with the dog to play and wrestle in the snow.

Amazing how warm it felt at 15 degrees without wind coffee
