Is A 2000 Series Reel Right for Light Action Rod?

I got a 7ft light action rod coming for panfish. From what I’ve read here 1000 series reels are about right. What about a 2000 series? My main thought is for maximizing casting distance. If I can do a 2000 without increasing the reel weight would I be good? I’ve read about many members favorite reel but if you want to throw in specifics feel free.

See how it balances the rod, I use 2000’s on pretty much everything open water.

Ya, I’m trying to be a good boy and stay at home as much as possible. Rod is coming by mail…..

I do 750’s or 1000’s on my panfish rods using 4 pound mono and get plenty of distance using 1/32 jigs/plastics. A lot will depend on how deep the spool is from the front lip to the rear of the spool….the longer the better on any reel.

Do you have a 2000 real at home? Try it, if you don’t like it. Order a 1000.

Nope, this is my first foray into anything lighter than a walleye stick and a 3000 reel. Not a big deal, but I do like larger reels in general.

Try a 3000 and base your choice off of that, if you use 3000 for walleye, I would suggest not going smaller than a 2000 for this.

I like the 1000 on my light panfish rods.
