iPilot Link -vs- Pronav Angler

I have a powerdrive v2 on my 16 foot alumacraft. It came with the boat — not my first choice of TM, but the motor is like new and handles my lightweight boat well, so I’m going to work with it a while. This motor is compatible with Ipilot link, but Minn-Kota has discontinued the conversion kit. I can piece together a kit with different OEM parts from two different sources for about $750, but before I do that I want to consider the Pronav Angler system as a possible alternative. I’m wondering if anyone here has any experience with this unit?

They recently had a video with Jay Siemens that caught my eye. System cost is about the same as above. It uses a phone app as the chart plotter with navionics and satellite imagery. So you can zoom in and chart your route along a certain contour or break. It takes longer than telling your Humminbird to follow a certain contour, but you can also do it sitting on your couch instead ahead of time. When you’re connected to the app, your phone still uses the external GPS source from the Pronav, NOT the crappy built-in GPS on the phone itself.

From what I can gather, the two systems offer a lot of the same features — spot lock and jog, autopilot, following routes and saving tracks and waypoints etc. The Pronav doesn’t look quite as precise in terms of being able to follow a specific map contour, but I’m leaning toward a Garmin sonar unit which isn’t link-compatible either.

Another positive to the Pronav system for me would be the ability to keep the foot pedal connected.

That said, I’m nervous. It seems this system was first reintroduced a few years ago and hasn’t gotten a ton of traction? I like that they’re revamping and adding more competitive features but it still seems relatively unknown? It’s tempting to go with the name recognition of MK.

For $750 why not sell the tm you have and upgrade to what you want. If you are not pairing with a hummingbird I would just get regular I pilot no point in getting the link at that point.
No experience with pronav but probably a reason nobody uses it.

I get your point but the motor is really more than adequate for this little boat. It’s worth more to me on the boat than what the re-sale value would be (not much). Not ready to get into a whole conversion to a 24v system.

A regular old ipilot for my TM would be about $550. The ProNav at $750 offers quite a bit more functionality than a standard ipilot, being able to plot routes on your phone against sat imagery and save unlimited routes.

Again, would love to hear from actual users. Thanks!

I guess I would go the I pilot route. I do not ever feel the need to plot a route to troll on my couch.

Best money I’ve spent on my boat. Upgraded my 2013 pd v2 70lb and it is the basically the same as a brand new unit costing $1500. Throw in the GPS puck and it’s hard to beat for less than $600 and a few minutes of install time.

I did a ton of research before going this route and here are my cons for pro nav. 1. Price – they are sneaky with their packages and i think what i wanted was going to be over $900. 2. The remote – no display is a deal breaker. 3. The unit attaches to the shaft – only a matter of time before that snaps off.

Check out the package from Northland and reach out if you have any questions.

Also, i have never met an angler that actually uses ipilot link to map out a trolling path. Not saying there aren’t any out there, it just seems like unused tech. Also, extremely dependent on map accuracy and navionics maps are not always super accurate.
