Want to give a huge shoutout to Sheldon and Sheryl. After nearly 5 years of bad luck with 2 different motors I threw in the towel and decided to repower with new Suzukis. Went with a 175 and 9.9 kicker on my Ranger 692. Sheldon nailed all the rigging and went above and beyond in his typical fashion. Have some work to do to get the boat balanced again after adding the kicker but have already hit 51 mph with a full fuel load and going upstream on the Croix. Best I could do with original Evinrude 175 was 54 with a light load and perfect conditions. This Suzuki motor is a beast! Thanks again Sheldon!

I stopped in down there to say hi last week. He was talking about your boat and hoping it would turn out the way you hoped. Glad to hear you are happy. Unlike a lot of people these days I think he really puts the customers satisfaction ahead of the money.
He must be busy because he there was a lot of work he needed to get done before his vacation this month.

He absolutely does and it’s more than rare today in business. Sheldon is the best!
June 3, 2024 at 2:09 pm #2275532I have a DF175 on my 205 Tiller and I’ve been really happy with it.
It’s extremely quiet at idle and had great midrange torque. You do lose a little top end speed over a Merc or Yamaha due to the taller gear ratio, but it’s not missed on my end.
Precision Marine is a great source for replacement parts and service fluids.

You repowering BC?
June 3, 2024 at 2:38 pm #2275543He’s killing it since he got the Suzie dealership.
Yeah he said he sold a bunch more than he thought he was going to. Couldn’t be happier for him!!

Yes but not new. I’m buying her personal 75 merc off his boat. I smoked a rock and took out my lower unit and decided I don’t want to put money in to my motor. I have a 2 year plan on a fancy boat, I’ll have enough cash to buy outright. so Sheldon’s 75 will get me to that point and then my current boat will go to Mason.

Cool, I can personally verify it runs pretty good. I wish I had your skills and drive to do that much side work to pay cash for a fancy boat. What you saving up for one with sparkles?
No sparkles. Probably a 185 competitor tiller maybe a pro guide if I find a great deal. I’d love a 205 but 185 is probably more realistic. If I find the right deal I’ll probably buy sooner. I’m just in no rush.
My 205 TL will likely be for sale in about 2 years. It all depends when John at Crucial finishes up his 20′ glass tiller. I want to see it in person before I commit to purchase.

June 3, 2024 at 4:53 pm #2275571Terrific outboard, really looks nice on your rig. Did Sheldon add that Atlas jack too, or was that already on?
The quality of those Suzuki outboards is just crazy good.
June 3, 2024 at 5:53 pm #2275573Sheldon put the Atlas plate on. I had a manual jack plate on before this one. Figured I was going all in with the new motors so I was going to do it the right way and go hydraulic.
Mike mPosts: 237June 3, 2024 at 8:39 pm #2275591I saw your boat in his shop when I was getting my zuki , very impressed with what he was doing . Nice rig!!!
Iowaboy1Posts: 3791June 3, 2024 at 9:02 pm #2275594I am truly humbled once again to read a post like this,,Thank you for letting me serve you, it was indeed a privilege!
Thanks everyone for the kind words, I know I about drove Kevin nuts as I was sending him pictures with every little goal reached and some of the goals were tough to get accomplished before days end!
Some of the rigging was a nightmare, it had never had a kicker before and I was left with mounting a bracket to a virgin hull, I about wore out a level checking and rechecking to make sure it was as close to being as perfect as I could get it, then there was what to do with a control mounting hole that had been butchered with two different brands of controllers, OMC and Mercury, and now a Suzuki but I won! thank goodness for engineered marine plastic and it matched the rest of the black in the boat nicely.Adding the hydraulic jack plate was no big deal,,,,until it came time to mount the blinker switches, I had put the steering column back together after mounting the switch plate and started wiring it up and low and behold, only the down side of the trim worked, wth????
I moved on to other projects within the boat and text Kevin that a switch was bad and I had ordered another one but the original switch wouldnt let me rest so I went back in after it, removed the steering wheel again and switched the wires with the jack plate switch, same dang thing, WTH now!!
Long story short, somewhere in the harness,, the wire colors were switched within the harness, I dont know if someone was being a smartass at the factory or if they ran out of wire during a production run and started with a new color or what but the green wire and the pink wire were switched, this was in the Atlas plate harness not the Suzuki harness, if it had been I would have swapped harnesses to make it right. There are a lot of stories of this project as it went along and I had a blast doing each thing I did and I had fun teasing Kevin with pics, especially when I fired the motors for the first time.
And of course when I was satisfied with it and worrying that I was going to make the owner happy, I could not rest yet, I just had to put the finishing touches on it,, I vacuumed about ten times, polished everything above the water line until my elbows hurt and waited with nervous anticipation.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT WE DID?? we took it to a lake to give it a quick run and got it all dirty again!!!
The lake was like chocolate milk, full trees floating everywhere, and of course we got rained on on the way back to the dock, this was three days after Kellogg Iowa received anywhere from ten to thirteen inches of rain overnight depending on what end of town you were on and we were flooded out, I kid you not, I could have rolled Kevins boat out of the door about ten feet and floated it off of the trailer, heck we could have give it a spin around my shop!!!!!!The smile said it all, that was enough for me.
Folks, I live by simple rules, one of those rules is this, always give it your best, and if that isnt good enough,,try again, make sure the man you charged for work is happy even if it costs you a couple of extra hours, that man and his friends will be back.
Dutchboy, thanks for stopping by!! always a pleasure to see you sir! and you timed it perfectly as I needed that break!
June 4, 2024 at 7:58 am #2275616You guys give Sheldon way too much credit. Sheryl does all the hard work.
Let me know when you’re ready. Or shoot me a message if you want any details. I did get word that serial #1 of the boat model I plan to buy is supposed to be delivered at the end of June. So, I may be ready to sell my rig sooner than later.
