This Sat. My normal team will be hitting it hard on Sat and Sun. Super fun trip with good friends and the laid back lifestyle of a small town in Iowa. So fun in fact we now get down early on Friday to scout more and generally have a good time anticipating the opener. Breakfast at 630am in the best tiny cafe I know of then off to quietly sit in the truck and watch the clock sloooooowly tick towards 8am. No guarantees we limit but we’ll get some birds. Anyone else going?

How did you do Suzuki? Really bad reports coming out of SD.

Opens this Sat. I will report. It hasnt been great where we go for the last several years BUT we keep learning the same area more and get our birds that way.
We dont limit that often but always get enough to bring some home for the family.

    Training photo from Monday night.

I’m going to South Dakota Wednesday and will hunt through Saturday. After that I’ll be hunting in Iowa on and off for the rest of the season.

More corn still in the fields than any of us have ever seen on opener. 80% or better in our area. The good news is we still saw decent numbers of birds and it will only get better after the corn is pulled. 3 of us got 4 Sat morning and 3 Sun morning. Hunted with a couple other friends and they got a few too. Should have had more but lost a few birds and missed a lot. All of us had some humbling misses. Waiting at least two weeks before returning so they can pull corn.

No pics and I know thats lame but we smoked em again in Iowa Fri and sat. (Today) it was fun. Good dog work made it that much sweeter. Finding areas with better populations was key. Tben working good ditches in that area.

Why is/was the harvest so late? With the dry Nov. you would think it would of been done early this year. sleeping

Although I haven’t hit the motherload in Iowa this year I’m getting birds each trip. Here’s from last Saturday.

Late harvest equals better late season hunting. Something we have been anticipating.
