Here is what you need to get it done as the output shaft on the ION is undersized for The K-Drill. It’s the UNIVERS-ALL auger extension & converter.

I don’t know. The Ion came with a 6″ shaver bit, and I like the 8″ chipper bit on the K-Drill. I reopen alot of old holes and after the season gets along the ice gets alot of grit from slush falling off of trucks. Sofar the K-Drill has been impervious to it where I’ve had shaver blades struggle when faced with those conditions. Also, I have a pristine sharp Ion bit for backup if the need ever arises.

Any updates on how this worked? Thinking of making the switch. Is the K-drill bit lighter than the Ion bit?

Hard to say, my 8″ kdrill with adapter to fit ion head comes in at 20 lbs. The ion originally was outfitted with the ion 6″. But all in all I love my setup and have even been leaving the ion battery connected out in the cold for hours, even overnight, and it still drilled effortlessly through 16″ ice. Nightine temps were low 20s. I’m testing g its limits and have the luxury of a warm spare battery if it does struggle or stops working.

Looking at putting a kdrill on my ion….. Did this continue to do well for you?

Haven’t been out this season yet, but the setup last season worked excellent.
