Ion alpha plus batteries

Just un-boxed my new 8” Ion auger. Pretty excited about it. Planned fishing trip next day so plugged in batteries to get to full charge before the trip. Plugged battery in and got a quick red flash and then a quick green flash. It did this all night. Showed two bars on both batteries the next day. Drilled probably 15 holes with Each one and auger would shut down on me. But each battery still showed 2 bars. Still wouldn’t cut anymore. Wth is going on? Anyone had this kind of trouble?

owners manual should say what that error code flash sequence means, otherwise contact Ion, they have great customer service….

I drilled 15 holes the other day and my battery meter didn’t move, said it still has a full charge when I threw it on the charger…

Odd that you would get 2 bad batteries. Maybe the charger is the cause. If you know someone with an Alpha or gen1 charger, I’d try them on theirs. These Apha chargers don’t look to be as good of quality as the Gen2 charger.

    Ryan,

That will be my first try as i have a buddy that has one. Going to try his charger today to rule out the charger. My guess is its the batteries but who knows. I do know when the auger ran it is amazing. So hopefully can get a fix soon.

I’ve owned 4 batteries total with my 2 Ions and they were all awesome batteries, but I did have 1 charger go bad and Ion replaced it no questions asked…

Did you look in the manual for the flash sequence code description? My G2 charger has a sticker on it that explains what the different flash codes mean…

Here’s the code sequence for my G2 Battery Charger (I couldn’t find any Alpha info on Ion/Ardisam’s website) Have you plugged the charger in without a battery connected? Do the lights flash at all?

Dont let this scare anyone away from Ion. I still have their original auger. I replaced that battery once with an improved 5a model. Truth be told I dont think the replacement is going to last as long as the original 3a but this unit has more than paid for itself. I have never changed the blades as unbelievable as that sounds and I use it quite a bit every year. As much as I would like to try some of the other stuff on the market I wont when it comes time to replace. It will be another Ion.

Take it back to where you bought it and exchange it for sure.

+1, i’ve been preaching about them for years…I owned an original model and upgraded to a G2 2 years ago…absolutely love it…

I agree 100%. I’m not putting ION down by any means and I appologize if it sounds like it. When the batteries had power it out-performs any auger I’ve ever had. I’m mainly looking for a way to fix the problem.

ION contacted me first thing this morning and we are working the problem as we speak. Customer service goes a long ways in my book and so far they are at the top in this category also. I will report anything that we find. Thanks everyone
