Hi Guys, I am hoping someone has some good advise.. What I am looking for may not be out there but I am so sick of getting a contract with Comcast or direct TV and having the bill double over the course of the contract.

We are moving next week and thinking about just going with a good internet service. No phone or TV. I would add a service like Roko, netfix or Fubo.

Really I am just fed up with these TV providers and the rip off packages. I have to believe there is a better way around it. I am happy just having Youtube and my girls are happy just having a handful of shows to watch. They can get most on Youtube anyway. We have no reason or need to watch TV every night but still pay the 230.00 a month at the moment. I am done doing that and wondering what the next best thing is and if we can get a good internet service for half that cost without rising bills throughout the contract.

We just moved to Hulu Plus – $39.99 a month and has all the local channels. Just need one of the sticks to cast it onto your TV. All you pay then is for your wireless service.

I think we get about 60 cable channels plus all the streaming/movie options through Hulu along with all local channels. We love it so far – way better that Comcast or Century Link which I have used in the past.

You can also get a free trial to see if you like it.

We trialed all the streaming TV services when we moved: Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling, Playstation VUE and DirecTV NOW. DirecTV NOW is what we settled on and have been using for the last 8 months. No contracts, can watch through apple tv, roku or amazon fire sticks plugged into the big screen or an app on the phone. If you have ATT wireless service you can get a discount on the service. We pay about 20 bucks a month and get the local channels plus all the other ones. One nice feature is being able to pull up the game on my phone in the portable ice house and watch.

Quest has Price for life, meaning it will not change. They have internet and there own TV thing. We use DTV with a antenna on the roof and Netflix,You tube on the apps on our TV.

I have 75 meg service (50 act speed) through my cable/Internet provider for $60/mo and I use sling through roku. Sling for me is $25/mo and has been that way the last 2 years. I had direct tv prior and was spending $130/mo just for that. Saving $100 a month is satisfying never had one single regret.

RUN AND NEVER EVER LOOK BACK! that’s $100 a month more for fishing.

Just list out your channel “must haves” and find the provider that has them for less.

$65/month for high speed and $35/month for Directvnow and we couldn’t be happier. Did the “pay three months up front and get a free Apple TV 4K” under my name and then cancelled it and the wife signed up. Now we have two Apple TV 4K’s and an Amazon Fire Stick. The app is less glitchy and much easier to use on the Apple TV versus the Amazon stick.

We just switched, only negative is you can’t get away from Comcast entirely. We switched internet only (100 Mbps I think) for $77/mo + DirecTV Now with HBO for $40/month. We were going to do Sling, but DirecTV was a slightly better deal.

We recently dumped Comcast for Century Link and Dish. We got the Century Link internet “Price for Life” deal shown here:

    https://www.centurylinkdeals.com/?s_clid=968f7a22e40995f18bc8061caeaf2568&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_8XYz-_i2wIVFLjACh1sLQZTEAAYAiAAEgLuZPD_BwE

Just make sure the speed in your are can handle streaming video and (Or multiple sessions of video)

So far we are happy with the deal. May even dump the Direct TV at some point if they start upping the rates. You should be able to lock in internet only for under $50 a month.

Thanks a ton guys, I was talking to the wife last night and am going to get locked into the internet only for sure. This gives here some options to look at as far as services and will keep her from bugging me about resigning that stupid contract with Direct TV. See ya dish!!

Nope, DirecTV NOW is not satellite based at all, basically the same as Sling.

I called Comcast/xfinity last night and that was a joy… They quoted my wife 91.00 per month after all fees for internet only. What a joke.

I ended up with 1.5 hours on the phone but was able to get the cost of internet for 54.00 per month (150MB) on a one year contract. We are currently at 36 mb.. This price was with no other cost!!! No setup, service fees or taxes. I am buying my own modem/router to avoid that rent/tax fee. We can live with this.. I will look into the options for streaming but this at least gets us down to a locked rate for a year at 54-90.00 per month depending on how far we want to go with steaming options.

    Thanks guys!

we cut the cord and now get all of the good streaming services for less than I used to pay for just internet and the live major network channels.

100 Mbps internet: $47 w/2 free routers (could get 1 Gbps for $100)
    Netflix: $11
    Amazon Prime: $8.25
    Hulu TV: $40

i could probably dump Netflix and Prime as it’s way more content that we could ever watch, but for these prices i can watch Luke Cage or Grand Tour whenever i feel like it… woot

I’m not saying that’s a bad idea, since I bought my own also. But be mindful of the quality of router when you go out to purchase one. Budget routers can slow your internet down more than any ISP could ever dream of! Most quality WIFI routers are $100-250. Possibly research mesh routers and see if it would be a good fit for your home setup.

Ask your internet service if they will provide you a couple of mesh routers rent-free. Mine does. Besides price, it’s one of the other ways they can try to out-compete the other services in the area. If you can borrow some from them at no cost, there’s no reason to own one as long as the one’s they provide are good enough quality. Never hurts to ask…

We tried Hulu plus and directv now they a roku stick. HP was super buggy, would skip thru 5-10 seconds and freeze frequently. Directv now streamed liked a dream but I couldn’t get used to not being able to pause the stream during football season.

We ended up bending dtv over a barrel. We got them down to $30/month for pretty much the same package we were paying $160 for! It can be done but you have to be patient and you have to be serious about walking away. When you call and say “I’d like to cancel” they will do everything they can to change your mind. Just my experience.
