was at work swapping fishing stories wihh the some of the older gentlemen that I work with, one of the guys was telling me that he was fishing on lake winni in the spring a few years back and saw a guy using a bobber and a rapala and he was catching walleye with it non-stop.

was wondering how in the heck this would work? the guy wasn’t trolling with it, one would think the fish would want something with more action to it….

    any thoughts??

Did you see Randy’s post about #3 RR under a bobber for Crappies? I never would of thought of trying that.

May have been a jigging rap or like lure to keep it at a constant depth then jig it back to boat?
On the flip side, don’t always believe everything you hear…

I’ve used both jigging raps and rippin raps under a float. I’m intrigued to know what type of rap aka and how it’s rigged. I’ve encountered walleyes in very shallow, with cattails and weeds. Be nice to keep a F-11 at 12” or less

You can hang a weight from a treble.
    Vertical jig lipped baits.
I bought some years ago at a bait shop.
Used a few times over the years

so one opener I was casting for walleye up shallow near a creek mouth 3-4 feet after dark, and had some luck casting Husky jerks. then I had an idea about keeping my presentation in the strike zone longer, and it made me think of red or speckled trout fishing down in the gulf. They use a popping cork and 2-3 feet of a leader down to an imitation shrimp. Well, to my surprise I put on a lighted bobber with a 3 foot lead with a shiner looking swim bait and started nailing walleyes. kinda my go to along with the HJ, that time of year. I work it aggressively too, like they do in the gulf.

    These things:
Hang from split ring, the weight sits below the treble.

When I was younger my grandpa would put a bobber above my daredevil when casting for northern so I wouldn’t get snagged… I would guess that would work with a rapala as well.

Saw a guy using the jumbo pike bobbers (baseball sized) while trolling HJ 12s along a rip rap shoreline once. He said he put the bobber about 10 foot above the bait and let 200 foot of the out to get bait well behind the boat. He hammered the walleyes. Said he try’s it every spring and it works well about 1 out of 3 years.
