A local lake I fish usually has seasonal weeds that cover the entire floor of the lake and come to within 5′ of the surface or to the surface in shallow water 5′ or less. Open water areas where the clear water is open for retrieving soft plastics and overhead spins (Beetle type), have be amazing as far as the number of fish caught and the power of the strike. My partner and I caught over 40 fish in four hours Sunday in the middle of nowhere – some crappie near 1 foot long and fat belly prespawn sunfish. Yesterday I fished solo and within 3 hours caught over 2 dozen. Bass hit the same lures:

Looks like a good day! I swear a beetle spin might be the best bass lure on the planet. lol

In the next week I’ll be trying new and old lures to confirm they work – at least this time of year. Some of them are carryovers from last year such as the overhead spin and large curly tail grub.
