Insulated catch covers?

I was hunting in my house this year and got a lot of cold and condensation through the catch covers (floor is insulated). I also rarely have them all off on the ice and feel they lose heat. Has anyone insulated thier covers? I found one picture online of someone who put great stuff in them, but there was no followup on how it worked or held up.

I spray foamed all my catch cover lids and it works great! Holds up very well! I would highly recommend it, I did mine 3 years ago and haven’t had to touch them!

Any suggestions on what type of spray foam? Is there a brand that is easier than others to work with? Is it fairly easy to remove excess with knife or saw of some sort? How many cans for 8 hole covers? Great idea.

Also throw a strip of weatherstripping on the underside of the cover lip. It helps keep the air from coming in and also stops the road dust/salt from coming in while going down the road.

I’m interested to hear if there is anything better than great stuff. The one picture I found it looked like the guy just did it very carefully and didnt trim it flat. I also see they make a black foam for a few more bucks a can.

In our new Ice Castle rentals we spray foam underneath our hole covers with great stuff foam. 2 cans did 8 holes with some left over. When it sets up I trimmed with a knife so there flush. Keeps water and dust out of our house when traveling and does insulate the holes. Our floor are insulated also and helps a lot with the covers insulated.

I just used the great stuff brand you get from Menards…..when you spray ur covers try to only fill them half full at most….they expand like a big pie!!!! I never trimmed mine flush, it didnt impede any of my operations to let them billow, plus it’s just more insulation…..2 cans should be all you need.
It trims up nice with a handsaw….I just wanted as much insulation as I could get…..
