Just purchased a Helix unit. Is the installation something that is fairly self explanatory or would you suggest having someone do it for me? Should also mention it’s an upgrade from a flasher that was on the boat so not like it’s switching from a different humminbird model.

The wiring diagrams are pretty simple on new units. The most difficult part is mounting the new transducer, and that isn’t hard. Give it a shot, YouTube is your friend if you get stuck.

It’s pretty simple. Mounting the display itself is easy and self explanatory. You’ll have only two cables, the transducer and the power. Look in the specs for what size fuse you need, install the inline fuse and go directly to the battery or to a clean power source that is can be switched off and on if possible(maybe your accessories have an open spot with a master power switch of some kind). However your hook it to power, make sure it’s fused somehow. As far as the transducer, the only big thing with that is to get it mounted properly to get a depth reading at higher speeds. That may take some trial and error. There’s lots of info on the web and many youtube videos that explain and show exactly how it’s all done.

Its very simple. If you need to run it thru the beams or inwale, run it with a few extra pieces of rope in there for future replacements…you’ll thank yourself.

good plan to put an inline fuse on the power, most units will come with that for you to install.

Transducer placement is very simple, as someone stated, watch a few youtube videos. On a side note, use some type of transducer board…again, future self will love you for this.

I agree with the previous posts advice recommending installing yourself.
You will get a nice understanding of the unit once installed and working properly.
This definitely helps in the future when performance issues arise…decent chance they will arise sometime.
