Inline reels

I’ve been looking into getting an inline reel but I can’t decide on which one to get. The other thing I was wondering is what line to use on them for the set up you use.

I’ve used the 13 fishing, frabill 261, and eagle claw. I like the eagle claw the best. The ice braids with ice Floro leader seem to perform the best for me. But,, they are all pretty close in performance.

Ok. With the floro leader, what lb test do u run on that for panfish?

what is the smallest sized jig that you think i could use with that setup as u said when the deepest i would be fishing is 17ft? on my spinning rods without a bobber i can use 1/16 oz regular jig and 1/32 in tungsten. how much improvement will we make with this?

The reels and line will be good to go. What is really important is matching the rod to the lure weight.

I run 2 eagle claws, one tony roach, and a cgi. so far that tony roach is awesome. I run 100% flouro mainline all the way. anywhere from 2-8 lb depending on target species. my go to is 3lb. I fish as small as 3mm tungsten with 0 problems.

I picked up a #8 tackle cgi reel this year. I really like it. For the money I think it is a best inline reel out there. I backed mine with older cheap line and run 50 or so feet of 3 lb micro ice at the end. This reel allows the smallest lure to free fall at a decent rate. A Lille slow for my taste in water over 30 ft or so but just fine foe 25 feet or less. no matter what reel you decide on if you fish outside at all remove the factory grease it comes with and replace with hot sauce. You will be glad you did on those cold days when fishing outside.

Thanks for the advice. One last question. In the past i have had bad luck with mono and floro on spinning reels with memory and making what some would call a “rats nest” so i have switched almost all of my spinning reels to fireline or suffix braid. So do you run into a “rats nest” with inline reels and if so how do u prevent it?

When releasing the bait make sure that the decent is unobstructed and let bait fall on it’s own. If the line binds just give a gentil pull, don’t jerk the line causing the spool to spin. Upon getting the lure down close to the bottom use your finger to drag on the spool so rotating inertia doesn’t keep it spinning even though there is no more line being played out. Hopefully this helps.

I have a Frabill one, works pretty well. I run Fireline with a two lb flouro leader, very sensitive and strong enough for all panfish. I do sometimes have line twist troubles but I believe that that was the lure, not the reel.

They all take some getting used to, I’ve had mine a year now and it still feels and acts a little weird.

I have them so I use old fly reels mainly on my dead stick rod. Sloppy enough it almost free spools for a quick and easy drop, no problems icing up as well. Palm drag the fish that do take line, full of old fly line backing then 50 yds. ice braid to small swival then floro.leader. Works well for me plus they were just laying in a drawer gathering dust. Fish safe

I ordered a Frabill Straightline 101 from Cabelas. Opened the package took one look at it and sent it back for a #8 CGI reel. The Frabill looked like a cheap piece of junk.

I ordered the cheapest plastic Eagle Claw for my first in-line. The reviews on Amazon were all great but the others had complaints. As long as it’s as smooth as the reviews with light jigs I don’t care what it looks like or what it’s made out of. The price was right too.

That was my thought. I bought one last year and liked it so much I got a second this year. I love it for jigging panfish!
