Inline Reel Maintenance?

I have quite a few 13 Fishing Black Betty 6061’s and I love them. Just picked up a few more for the upcoming season.

I’m curious though, since some are now a few years old and I’ve never touched them. Even though they still spin great, what do you guys do for maintenance if anything between seasons? Re-grease? Re-oil? Etc.

Spins great, cranks smoothly, nothing anymore… LOL.

Haha! Good point… That’s why I haven’t touched them to this point! Suppose I could wait until they start slowing down if they do?

Other than initial removal of excess factory grease, I pretty much leave things alone.

Change out grease and re-lube everything. Even if it’s smooth now it might not be in the cold. Take off rods and stick in freezer for a few hours. Now try reel and see how smooth it is. You can never hurt any reel by verifying it’s got a new fresh coat of lubrication. Better safe then sorry.

I had a problem with a knob locking up last year.

Good idea with the freezer, this one only seems to do it while cold.
