I’m looking to get a little advice from those who fish LOTW for walleyes, suager, perch. I’m taking a friend who does not fish much. I’d like to take him him to a body of water that may produce some type of action all day. Also, I have never fished LOTW although I do a lot of ice fishing. We will be going through a resort and doing the permanent shack thing. Time frame will be early to mid March. I’ve been looking at Cyrus Resort but would be open to other suggestions. Thanks for any help you can provide.

We fish shallow via ATV and snowmobile in portables in the Cyrus area. But we do not get a midday bite. For an all day bite with walleye & sauger I think it best to get out into the 32 fow bowl towards the center of the lake. Lots of resorts set up in that area and take you there via Bombardier

I prefer to fish early or late ice and we had a great trip in December. I also like to fish closer to the Rainy River. I really like Wheelers Point and they run a good operation. I do have the contact info for one of their guides if you want it just shoot me a pm. Good luck wherever you go.

Even on LOTW it can be tough to stay on fish all day without being flexible and mobile. I agree with Don that if you want the best chance at an all day bite go deep. Not sure where Cyrus runs their houses but if you can get out to 16 mile it could be good. I think Arneson’s Rocky Point runs house out there. Another options would be a resort up on the NW Angle.

We were up at Arnesons Jan. 9-11. They put us on a mud flat in 24 ft. of water. Jigging was unproductive. We tried many different presentations, but the fish would just follow and not strike. However, we did have a second rod set up on a Finicky Fooler tip-up and the fish would bite on this dead stick set up. Eventually we gave up on the jigging and set up more tip-ups. We averaged 50 fish/day fishing this way between two guys in one shack. We had a group of friends that don’t ice fish much in the shack near us and they also did well with this set up. This may not be the case when you go, jigging may be more productive. Just depends on the mood of the fish. I would suggest having a plan to set up dead sticks if the fish are not responding to jigging. A rattle reel, slip bobber or Finicky Fooler tip-up.

We are headed up the second weekend in February. Not sure what to expect either. We are going thru Jeff’s ice o miniums. I will definitely give a report on the fishing and experience at Jeff’s.

Would agree to have a good deadstick plan. We had a tuff time jigging them last year on a mid Jan. trip, but dead sticking proved to be productive.

I’m 100% with everyone on the deadsticking plan. In my experience on LOW I have always seemed to catch more on the deadstick after marking fish with electronics while jigging.

Also I can only say good things about Zippel Bay Resort. My dad is older and has a bad back so we would typically rent a day house and use their ice roads. Staff was always great about checking in and giving tips of what they’ve been on. We’ve also switched houses mid-day if they weren’t biting a couple times of they had open ones.
