So today I took the CVA Buckhorn to the range and got it sighted in dead on at 50yds, but after shooting (more than I wanted for just sighting in) I went to clean it, and noticed the build up of smoke, powder residue all over the scope around the area directly above the breech plug and where the primer is impacted. It cleaned off fine with a little bore cleaning solvent on a rag, but wondering what if anything anyone else uses to deal with or manage this.

Because of the coatings used on quality glass, i would check with a manufacture before using a bore cleaner. Might etch the glass?????

I think he is referring to the scope tube, not the lenses. Try cutting a piece of duct tape and putting that on the underside of the tube above the breech plug. The blow-out at the breech can leave a little to be desired on black powder guns and this is a common thing. On my T/C I carry a roll of tape with me and if the weather turns inclement I run a strip over the breech where the barrel breaks. I’ve never had a problem with moisture but I like to keep snow and rain off that part of the gun.
