James Holst and Pj Vick are ‘On Location’ in the boat on Lake Erie trolling for walleyes. Find out all the details of depth, boat speed and what Rapala crank baits did the trick before the show airs on Sunday morning!

Yikes, didn’t sound like they had any fun at all. Marks for miles?!?! I really need to get out there.

I get to catch a lot of fish, travel and live a pretty good life. But damn I’m jealous! Great trip guys!

Spent days in the chocolate milk mess after storms last year and couldn’t hook a thing. Going back next week for redemption.

Besides shorter leads, why use snap weights vs lead core?

Both snap weights and lead core serve the same purpose which is to get a crankbait deeper than it would normally run. I have quite a bit of confidence in either presentation. However, in the last few years we’ve been using snap weights more often because it allows us to use long line braid or mono rods for either presentation. So I guess the short answer to your question is…versatility.

Hey, I like that one! rotflol

It’s a blend of “it’s not rocket science” or “it’s not brain surgery.”

We’ve got some pretty darn good walleye fisheries here in Minnesota but once you’ve experienced Lake Erie it does set a new bar for quantity and quality of fish available. Everybody should make the pilgrimage so they can check the Lake Erie box!

My first thought….was that on purpose or an accident?

Second thought, thank God I am not on camera all day, plenty of cringe worthy material there!!!

Smaller lighter rods and reels as well. Much more fun than winching lead in.

    Very much on purpose.

Is the method that you use to set depth charted somewhere or is that from experience using the snap weights? What depths were you fishing and what depths do the 20×20, 30×30 get baits to. Great show and that fishery is exceptional.

James did you guys play with the Mega live in Perspective mode?

I’m thinking you can point it forward to see the fish ahead of the boat and the depth they are running and how they are reacting to the approaching boat.

Or point it to the rear and watch how they are reacting to the baits.

No experience for me yet. Just learning on how others utilize it and how I think it may be able to be used.

i grew up fishing Erie with my dad and his buddy on the buddys boat. Walleye in spring and all summer, perch in the fall. We drift fished with erie dearies baited with fat night crawlers that i would catch at night in the yard. We always went out from Luna Pier in Michigan. I wish i could locate the pictures from some of those weekends. best fishing ever.

When you are running braid on boards did you have to wrap the line around clip to keep board from sliding? Especially with snap weight on it? I didn’t look like you were on show but hard to tell.

We didn’t have to do a wrap. The OR22 clips lock down good and tight.
