Randy Shaver was a fresh face sports guy on TV.
Ron Schara wrote for the newspaper.
HBO & MTV were the in thing on cable.
Mille Lacs was known as the dead sea.
    Phone booths were everywhere.
    Atari was a gaming system.
Cell phones were what Captain Kirk talked to Spock on.
Heres one for you youngsters to google………Encyclopedia Britannica.

    ……….
We didn’t own a computer of any kind.
My Dad listened to his records every day cause he hated 8 tracks.
The Twins still hadn’t won a world series.
There weren’t any cordless battery tools.
Mark Rosen had hair, before he lost it, then grew it back.

Oh, I had to click on this.
When the next ice age was a scare.
    When MPLS had 2 newspapers.
When we had nuclear drills at school.
When the 1st man landed on the moon.
When the 1st space shuttle landed.
    When Disco was the rage.
When thinking you would never see a bald eagle in the wild.
    When Nixon resigned.

When we got our vaccine shots in elementary school.

When I followed my baseball team on a hand held transistor radio.

My bike had a banana seat and a sissy bar.

All my jeans had iron on patches and they never faded.

Listening to the shadow on the radio at the campsite while sitting on a case of refundable Schmidt or phiefers bottles in front of a fire.

Girls couldn’t play hockey, but we could play ringette.

Twin Cities had only one area code and it was 612. But we only dialed the 7 digit phone numbers anyway.

More car and trucks were stick shift rather than automatic transmissions.
The neighborhood ice cream “truck”, was a three wheeled bike with an ice box.
Everyone I knew watched black and white tv.
Everyone I knew had to go to the TV to change channels, all three of them.
    Captain Kangaroo
    Mr. Green Jeans
    It’s Howdy Doody Time
I remember when phone number started with letters Like; CO-lfax, AD-ams
    We didn’t have Zipcodes
No area codes either, if you wanted long distance, you went thru the “operator”.
Lily Tomlin as a phone operator “Have I reached the party to whom I’m speaking?”
The phone had a cord and a rotary dial.

Zoilo, Harmon, Tony O., Mudcat and Kaat played for the league champions. Could hear the PA from Met Stadium in my back yard.
Rod Carew stole home 7 times in one season.
Alan Page played football and was not yet a Supreme Court Justice.
I went to the park in the morning and there were always enough kids for a pickup baseball/football/hockey game.
Grandpa threw the maroon and white 10 horsepower Johnson Seahorse in the trunk of his block long Chrysler and we drove to Mille Lacs for a weekend of fishing in a rented 14 foot boat.
Boys got in fist fights and no one got shot.
The older neighbor kid drove to South Dakota and brought back Black Cats and bottle rockets for the entire neighborhood, only charging enough to cover the fireworks and his gas.

The first plastic baits were the guppy’s and caught a ton of crappies on them. Used old spark plugs or big washers for sinkers when fishing in the River.

Yeppers, pick your poison? I’d always pick home for the beating.

Was so much more humiliating to get whacked at school in front of all your classmates.

Worst was the hair grab by the 7th grade science teacher. His name was Heitkampf. And yes, he looked the part of the Waffen SS. shock

When there wasn’t a McDonalds in every town.

They built the first “Henrys” hamburger joint right behind the Jr. High, when I was in 8th grade. All us kids that had any money swarmed the place right after school. If you were real daring, you’d sneak over there during school hours.
