I'm looking for a comfortable comb riser

Joe Hunter and any other long range guys…..I’m looking for a comfortable comb riser. I’ve tried a few out that friends have and haven’t found “the one” yet. I’m not willing to drill holes in my stock with a riser that I am not completely satisfied with yet. So the search has been on for the best of both worlds.

Being completely adjustable isn’t a major factor. My rifles are set up for myself, so not really a need to adjust for other shooters. I really like the feel of the neoprene like a Bearstooth or the Blackhawk Tactical. But I want a more stable/permanent solution. I noticed that with the slip on stocking type or strap on, they move around. The movement is minimal, but enough to change the perfect fit and I found i was constantly adjusting between shots.

The fixed (screwed on) molded like the Karsten is great for consistency, but not comfortable. After sending about 40 rounds down the range on a 6.5, I found the molded plastic very irritating. I quickly see why so many guys end up taping foam over/around the molded risers. With everything I have invested in the two rifles I want risers on, I don’t want to tape them. I want a clean finish. I’m not into pretty-boy glamorous looking rifles. I just don’t want to have the goop crap all over my stocks from shooting in summer and sweating on the pad.

So, the key question for the guys that need that 3/4″ or so of comb rise, which brands and why? Am I being too over critical on the slip on risers? I just want a consistent fit where my cheek bone settles in perfectly every time I draw up and I have that 100% perfect view into the scope without lifting my head at all.

I end up being on a cheek riser for extended periods of time, even though some of the options are cushioned I prefer the solid cheek weld. As far as those looking for something that would be consistent as far as accuracy yet a very good pad, it would be the cheek weld pad from McRrees Precision, I think they are around $35.00 an excelent pad that is rubber backed so it sticks to the stock and does not shift, you may have to tweak the straps a little to fit your stock and or throw a Karsten underneath it if needed.

Everyone is different and what can be tolerated has a lot to do with the bone structure of your cheek bone as to how much pressure can be tolerated. The most important factor is being comfortable behind the rifle in order to implement consistency in accuracy.

Here is a picture of the McRee pad mounted on a rifle, for $35.00 it’s tough to beat for comfort and service.

375 Snipe Tac we built/chambered ourselves, extremely accurate with the 350gr. Match kings at 3250 fps

You can always take the Cheek Weld pad for a test drive to see how it works for ya before you order. We always have ammo available, beware the recoil or the lack of it is addictive.

Did you have a chance to search a little on the cheek weld pad from McRees Precision? Probably the the most solid comfortable and functional pad we have seen.

Not sure on the travel time but we can get together and send a few.

ATA show this week and shot coming up. I’m buried into Feb with dealer meetings so I haven’t got too far. Was going to look at them while at shot. I see they are in booth 8337 and I’ll be at Phalanx Defense part of a day in #8002. Just an hour’s walk down the isle jester

I have a tactical ops one, same style that Joe hunter has. I’ll try and get some pictures up in a bit.
