I fished the Illinois yesterday from Spring Valley down to Hennepin. Fishing was tough for saugers. We did manage to boat a few.
I just couldn’t believe all the Asian Carp that are in the river up there. There were a lot of pleasure boaters out and the carp were jumping everywhere. Some in my estimate that went well over twenty pounds clearing the water by 5 feet. Getting hit by one that size would definitely leave a mark. Another thing that I noticed was the amount of dead ones floating down river, most of them met their demise from props. If you are going to fish the Illinois be careful. The river is thick with them. Oh yeah, I did manage to snag a few while ripping a blade bait. NASTY!
