They read my mind. Thanks James.

Have you seen any solutions that would insulate the hole? I’ve messed around a little bit with some foam with no success. That would be my only other suggestion.

FYI. I have found that filling the hole with snow greatly helps keep that hole from freezing up. I’ve had good success doing that too but I just hate having snow in the hole while fighting a fish and setting a line.

I recently purchased a new finicky fooler hole cover. Neat design, comes with an insulated ring that remains on the ice and the cover fits inside. Not sure if you could put the ifishpro over it some how or set the ipro to the side. I’ve used it twice with the finicky fooler tip-up and works well.

James, I noticed on this week’s show, you and Cal were using the iFish Pro’s with your Okuma bails opened. Do you ever run them closed with the baitfeeder all the way loose for walleyes? Or do you feel that walleyes will feel that resistance (very little) of the baitfeeder mechanism? I’ve tried running bails open from time to time and had a heck of a time with wind blowing line and found the baitfeeder helped that a lot last year.

The reason I run the Okuma Baitfeeder reels is for the ability to control the line coming off the spool when it is windy.

When the wind isn’t an issue I like leaving the bails open and allow the fish to run with the line with absolutely zero resistance. If the winds kick up and is causing the line to come off the spool that’s when I’ll use the baitfeeder function. I’ve caught a lot of fish this way.
