Wondering if anyone can share their success with this tip up. How they set up there rod, line, weight, hooks, etc. I have struggled to get bites with it and hook ups while at the same time my traditional tip up is producing. I am using it for walleyes fished with shiners or 4-6″ suckers. Many times once I have gotten to the flag, the fish has dropped the bait. So I’m thinking they are feeling resistance at some point. I typically like to drill a dozen holes or so, set two tip ups if with a partner and then we hop the rest of the holes, if no activity within 30-45 min we will pack up and move on. My frabill insulated tip-up has out fished the Ifish close to 10-1 so far this winter.

I will be watching this post also. I just got 2 i fish pros in the mail and have not used them yet. still looking around for best rod setup for walleye.
January 30, 2017 at 9:23 pm #1670004I had great luck with mine this weekend on Mille lacs. All big fish. I had a TUCR deadstick with an okuma abf 20 on it. The drag on the baitfeeder is turned all they way down so very little resistance. After watching the videos on here of how to hook live bait, I feel that has affected my hook up percentage for the better. Our best luck was a green forage minnow jig and fathead up on top of structure
Walkin bossPosts: 24January 30, 2017 at 10:22 pm #1670015I have the ifishpro as well as ice riggers. Used the ice riggers for years, with limited success for walleye and panfish. Purchased the ifishpro hoping for a more sensitive trigger, but still have limited success for walleye and panfish. If the hole starts to skim over with the ifish and a walleye strikes they must be feeling the resistance when the release loop comes in contact with the skim ice. They work well on pike, but not so much on finicky walleye and panfish. I found a new product at the St. Paul ice show that I really like called the Finicky Fooler. Unlike the ifish and rigger nothing is attached to your line. You can set the sensitivity very light or adjust it for larger bait. I’ve caught perch, crappie, walleye and pike on these with a very high hooking percentage. Very simple, versatile and compact. When teamed up with a hole cover works great.

trophybucsPosts: 50January 31, 2017 at 7:30 am #1670053Anyone in the Twin cities area that wants to buy my Ifishpro and save you some shipping costs. I think I only used it once. $30 Message me or give me a call 651-269-7813
January 31, 2017 at 11:16 am #1670130I bought 2 finicky foolers a couple weeks ago to test them out. Worked great and so simple. Bought 2 more last weekend. I have an I fish pro in the box going back to fleet farm. Only advantage of I fish pro is the hole is covered… But a cover can be purchased with the fooler or use one of your own.
Brad HakPosts: 24January 31, 2017 at 11:51 am #1670147I use artic warriors for walleye and pike and have great success. I do not know if this helps or not but over the last two years I have switched to predator rigs and have had no issue on hook sets. Like the posts above I set my drag 100 percent loose and do not recall having any drops before I could get over there to set the hook
Walkin bossPosts: 24January 31, 2017 at 12:23 pm #1670153With the ifishpro, ice rigger and Finicky Fooler, I’ve always used them with the bail open so there is no resistance when the fish is swimming off with the bait. The issue is the amount of pull resistance to trigger the device. Not so important when fishing pike, but a huge factor when targeting walleye and panfish.

Dylan SalowPosts: 51January 31, 2017 at 6:04 pm #1670217Been looking for something like the finicky fooler first time I’ve heard about it needless to say did some research and have one on the way to my doorstep hope it works as well as it sounds!
KfactorPosts: 94January 31, 2017 at 7:39 pm #1670248The ifishpro will be great for bigger fish like eelpout or pike. I think you can say forget it for crappies and panfish. So far I’ve caught only 1 eelpout with mine and I do notice it has some freezing problems. This will probably apply for the Finicky Fooler as well but it does look awesome! I may have to get a couple.
January 31, 2017 at 7:43 pm #1670249If anyone is looking for an Ifish Pro I will give you a sweet deal on (2) of them. They are not for me. I am just north of Cambridge and also am in Somerset Wisconsin often. PM me.
February 1, 2017 at 10:07 am #1670364Seems like all of a sudden there are some IFish Pros available on the secondary market?
I did order a couple last fall and unfortunately have yet to use them. Hopefully before this season is done. One thing I’ve never done or even thought of was using tip-ups for panfish or perch. Usually always setup for pike.Dan BakerPosts: 927February 1, 2017 at 10:57 am #1670384My fishing partner and I have been using them pretty regularly for the past couple of months in chasing panfish. Neither of us are very impressed. Several times we have lost fish due to the flag not popping (yes, the unit is set up correctly with the correct setting for a lighter bite). Myself, I’ve had over a dozen occasions wherein we happened to look over, and saw the tip of our deadstick bobbing and/or the line below the slip stop is going crazy but it won’t trip the flag. Big fish, small fish, it doesn’t seem to matter.
Walkin bossPosts: 24February 1, 2017 at 3:01 pm #1670457That’s a bummer. I would recommend the Finicky Fooler if you’re chasing panfish or any fish for that matter. You won’t be disappointed.

Well with that level of satisfaction, I’m surprised you kept using it? I suppose it may have been all you brought along to use? Sounds disappointing though since I bought 2 and have yet to use them.
Perhaps they will be giving them away at the IDO GTG on Mille Lacs later this month.February 1, 2017 at 9:19 pm #1670532I will say besides fish dropping the bait, the thing I’ve been most disappointed in was bite detection. I’m pretty good about checking my tip ups, about every 20 mins or so. So many times I’ve been missing minnows. I know its not my line, hook, etc because my business end is the same on standard tip-up and its working. Earlier this year I had a 17″ walleye hang itself on my line, it had choked down a 6″ sucker and never set off the flag. I went to check my minnow grabbed the line and could tell there was a lot more tension than normal. So let it be wanting to make sure the fish took it all the way. Well I watch my line swim around the hole for about 2 mins never tripping the flag. I finally decided to just set the hook. I got the fish in and it had swallowed the sucker whole without ever setting of the flag on the lowest tension setting! I think I’m done with it. I’ll stick to my frabill insulateds for the rest of the season and maybe pick up a finicky fooler next year to try.
KfactorPosts: 94February 1, 2017 at 9:58 pm #1670537I find it really sensitive even the lightest perch bite was setting my ifishpro off
shamusInactivePosts: 317February 2, 2017 at 7:21 am #1670569I think when these first came out some guys said they used a file to shave some plastic down to make the light bite setting more sensitive. I’ve only used mine for pike so I have no issues with the sensitivity.
dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501February 2, 2017 at 7:37 am #1670572I was able to try one when they first came out several years ago, and I hated it so much that I wouldn’t even give It away. It went right in the trash. There are a few other products on the market that do the same thing with a better trigger design. Remember just because you see guys using them on TV doesn’t mean they are great. They get paid to use them…

Perhaps they will be giving them away at the IDO GTG on Mille Lacs later this month.I guess I believe in being thorough I haven’t yet tried it for walleyes since my home lake isn’t really known for having a great population, but the panfish can grow quite large. I’ll be trying it on Mille Lacs next weekend, and if there’s no improvement…in the trash it goes. At least it was only $30. But the other night, I conducted a little experiment with both mine, and my buddy’s. Set them up on the bench in the garage, much like James had his in the instructional video. Found that on both of them, you really had to yank on the line from underneath to get the flag to trip. Makes me skeptical that a walleye would even set it off.
February 2, 2017 at 11:52 am #1670714I have not had a problem with my I fish pro’s, that said I just ordered a finicky fooled just cause I’m always looking for a better mousetrap
