That time of the season we all start digging out the ice gear, re-organizing boxes, throwing in the new tackle we maybe bought on clearance in summer or tossing the lures we didn’t have much luck with last season to the “let’s keep it for later” box that you probably won’t see for a year or two.

If anyone can get a few lures together and let me know by PM or text around the twin cities I’ll come grab it and put it together for a Veteran before the holiday season. Holidays can be a tough time for some and would be nice to provide a nice care package before this time comes for something to look forward too.

Doesn’t have to be much, thought that counts. No rusty crap that shouldn’t belong in a tackle box anyways pls.

Take a pic of what you can offer in this thread so we don’t double up on stuff.

Also if anyone has a good candidate for this shoot me a PM.

    Thanks Nick, 763-226-3801

    That’d be great Scott.

Sheldon, that be fantastic as well. Hold onto em for now, there’s a few fishing charity events that would love to receive I’m sure next year that I could hand off to.

I have a tiger wrapped 28” DH noodle blank rod that I had built for a customer of mine that I can’t get ahold of (I’ve been trying to get ahold of him for a long period of time). It had a one off 3D printed handle and standard fly guides. These rods are an easy 120.00-140.00 sale for me but I’d love to give this rod to a Vet instead. Let me know how I can get it to you.

Great idea Nick. I know I have plenty of fishing “stuff” that I forgot I even have. I can/will sort through all that I have but that may take time.
I might suggest that you pin a post like this and then keep it open indefinitely not only for this current offering but potential future ongoing opportunities for Vets, kids, any other community fishing events and promotions. Perhaps something like this could lead to some of us forum members to plan an outing to volunteer for something like a “Fishing for Live” event that provides opportunities for those that want to go fishing but have no other way then help.

Ideally I’d like to have the fishing stuff in the hands of the recipient/s within couple weeks.

Idk about the whole pinning idea. There are members here who post throughout the year of such events already, general forum seems to be a good spot so far.

    Nick,
    Nice job my man.
With all the tackle you’re roundin up, you’ll need some place to put it.

I’ll be up in your’re area tomorrow, text me you’re address again and I’ll drop it off on the back steps.

Great idea Nick. Im going to put a package together for you. Off the top of my head i know i have 2 or 3 nice tackle boxes that are empty and i know i have some lures that i can let someone else have. I can also throw in a few tip ups and a rod too. I work in Minnetonka if that would be easier for pick up. Ill post a pic when i put stuff together. Thanks for doing this!

Great stuff crappie, I can make my way out to Mound no problem.

At this rate think we are looking at a couple beneficiaries. Still looking for those! If I don’t receive any candidates by next week’s end I’ll contact couple of the non profits I’ve worked with in the area and get some names from them.

Update, not going as quickly as I was hoping but my back decided to have some disc issues last week and its not healing as quick as id hope. Should be able to run around this weekend or next week and grab everyones contributions. Thanks for the patience, ill get in touch once I’m good to go.

With that said, a customer of mine has been part of the MN patriot guard for some time and does many events with them. He’s seeking through his channels of a couple people that would appreciate the gifts.

Also, I get access to a small fairly local farm pond/lake that has stellar panfish. Its through a distant relative so its about a once a year thing(its kept very private) but I’m gonna butter up the necessary folks over thanksgiving to see if I can get a day of fishing for these guys out there. Ice gear aint no good if you cant use it.

Keep it updated as I go, and certainly any other people got lures to give have at it. Got two solid setups for bags and rods as of now.

Are you looking mainly for ice fishing tackle? Have plenty of ice type jigs still in original packaging

Just a thought here Nick. If the private pond thing doesn’t work out maybe schedule it for the GTG on Mille Lacs. Your vet(s) can mingle and hang out with some of the IDO characters.

    Yeah, mainly, sort of?

Judging from crappies pic and Eelpout bag he dropped off we got two bags and two nice sets of rods, with one tipup.

Need some more lures and terminal tackle to fill up the bags a lil bit.

Perhaps another tipup? Even a couple 5 gallon buckets be good. I picked up a 10′ PVC, only need a couple for what I need then might attach some rod holders for an added bait bucket as well.

    That’s a good idea dutch.

Originally my idea was attempt to grab those who might not like big crowds. There certainly are opportunities every year for fishing in big group events, but that’s not necessarily for everyone. We’ll see how it plays out, find the vets first then accommodate what would fit their style.

    Update.

Well, slow and steady wins the race right? Lol

When I hurt my back month ago or so decided to quit smoking, and have been wickedly sick since then as the body purges the junk out. First morning I woke up without a massive headache in couple weeks so I’m almost back.

Now I got the pity me party out the way, it actually worked out fairly well. The landowner who has the pond to fish said not longer after I spoke with him initially, the county blew up a couple beaver dams and flooded the whole thing out. He wasn’t comfortable letting guys out until after the New year which will be nice for being able to get wheelers out there for supplies.

Here’s the stuff, sorted out the boxes as evenly as I could. Reels got relubed, new line, tipup as well.

Will update again once we get the guys out to use it!
