This afternoon I signed on the dotted line and ordered a Roughneck 2070 DT with Yamaha 80HP jet outboard!

The boat is coming from the Power Lodge just up the road from Skeeter Boat Center in Ramsy, MN. Dean at SBC helped me locate a 115/80 Yamaha jet with big tiller handle and SBC is handling the rigging and setup so this build is a true team effort involving two dealerships.

The plan is to use our new skinny-water sneak boat to target under-fished species on bodies of water prop boats just can’t go. Should add a new wrinkle to our open water shows!

We’re also planning a public land whitetail hunt in Wisconsin next fall in an area that’s really tough to access in low water years without a jet. The new boat should open up some very under-pressured public land and hopefully make for a fantastic hunt.

The delivery timeline has me expecting an update on ETA early March which can’t come fast enough! Between the new jet and the Skeeter we’ve got the bases covered!

Very cool, chasing after catfish on the river is a blast with a jet boat!
Dont think I have seen an IDO episode targeting catfish yet.

Pat, Jake and I were just talking today about a Red River cat show. I could see that happening. I expect we’ll also spend a lot of time chasing muskie and smallmouth on the Upper Miss and rivers in Wisconsin.

Heck yeah, there is even some interesting water between Savage and Mankato on the Minnesota river, probably too slow for a show, but I would check it out as its so close. If you google DTRO (His name is Darren) for his youtube channel there are some nice monsters he has pulled out of the Minnesota over the years.

I used to fish the Red a bit when I lived in Fargo, the fish get bigger the further north you go (Grand Forks to LockPort Manitoba), but exploring the area from Fargo to Grand Forks can be alot of fun as well. For me it was always like a light switch, either you had a day where it was turned on and was EPIC or the switch was off and didn’t catch much.

Cool man! I’ll see you on the skinny water soon! Get yourself a talon for that ride. They are awesome in shallow rivers.

Excellent fishery. Be sure to include Brad! Heck of a guy.

You might consider Lockport in the fall when there is flow for the biggest catfish to make your ido show!

How shallow of water can it be operated?

I spoke with the engineers at the factory yesterday and they said when up on pad and running 3-4 inches over hard bottom with two anglers, light gear. Add extra anglers and a lot of gear and you need additional depth, of course. I do take that info with a grain of salt though as I wouldn’t try and run this boat that shallow, ever. I’ve been around enough jets to know that the intake will ingest sand, silt, pebbles, etc, when running in extremely shallow water. My goal is to have a boat I can run in rocky rivers where prop strikes would kill a prop boat. In the rivers I want to fish the minimum depths are measured in feet not inches…. and prop killing rocks are everywhere.

I’ll be able to share first hand data after I get it out on the water and setup properly.

Does the jet drive lower unit extend below the bottom of the boat?

Well then – next time you’re up there to Powerlodge and SBC Stop in at Lano Equipment and I’ll sell you a Kubota Tractor or RTV for the Trifecta!

Yeah upper Mississippi is a nice run for that boat. Not to mention the Mississippi backwaters.

What do you plan on using for a transom riser James? Will lower build your transom the correct height for your tiller setup and jet?

Lowe increases the transom height to 27″ on jet builds to get the proper height.

Both the factory and dealership were really helpful with making sure it was set up properly. I also added sponsons, optional spray deflectors,Shadow Grass camo throughout, upgraded hull and gunnels (thicker aluminum), and the Roughliner spraying floor liner.

I also upgraded the trailer to a tandem axle galvanized knowing in plan to haul this boat all over the country.

I’ve said it many times… “A guy needs at least 5 boats!” I would think you need a few more than that. waytogo

Congrats! Maybe you guys will run into Mike W, Dustin B or me on the upper Miss this summer? Love it up there.
