So I have never used a flasher, but I have always wanted to own one. Everyone I know that has one raves about how great they are. I have an awesome girlfriend, and she got me one for a gift. I found a great how-to on the lx5 by James Holst but can’t find anything really helpful by anyone for a new user for the lx6 or higher. I am guessing people think if you have a high end unit like this you know how to use a flasher in general… WOULD LOVE SOME HELP

There’s nothing hard about using those units.. james said it himself these units are user friendly. Imo if one using a smart phone for the first time is even more challenging

Oh, I don’t know about that. Seems like there are a lot of modes and settings to choose from on those units and for someone just starting out in flashers it might be a bit overwhelming. I only own a LX-5 so I’m no help. I hope you get the help you need jeremy, I’m sure you will.

LX6 here. I learned a lot by reading the manual that came with. I would bring it out on the lake and when fishing was slow I would pull it out, do some reading and fiddle around with the LX6. This is my 3rd season with mine and I am still learning new stuff.

I have the LX9. There are a lot of great video tutorials on YouTube but if you are ever in the Chanhassen/Eden Prairie area, I’d be happy to sit and fish with you and show you how I use mine.

Google lx-7 video. I believe Brad Hawthorne did a pretty good video explaining alot about the 6 and 7. Also James did one on the new update and what it did.

Years ago, before everyone had a vexilar, I saw Stange on Infisherman using a portable Lowrance unit through the ice for crappies. This might have been ’83 or so. So I took out my portable Lowrance, made a transducer holder out of wood, and punched some holes and tried to figure it out. Since I wasn’t sure if there were fish around, I actually hooked a banana on a lowered down the hole to see what a fish would look like. I messed around with the sensitivity and stuff ’til I figured it out. I still remember other fishermen scoffing at my flasher unit out on the ice. (I had outgrown the banana by then.)
Anyway, skip the banana, but just take it out and mess around with it; you’ll get it.
