No. Absolutely not. In my opinion, mods could do A LOT better job at cutting out the BS by removing the turned ugly posts sooner rather than later. We all know when a (usually political) post turns ugly but it seems they let it go on and on and on. I first made an account for the fishing topics but I’ve stayed, through the years, because of the wide variety of other topics I’ve enjoyed reading. I’d rarely post if this site were strictly fishing/hunting.

No – I very seldom post but do follow the site and check almost every day. The reason I do not post is that last year I had a bass posts that the bass haters on Mille Lacs blew up. I do read the posts related to covid, the recent unrest, etc. because I feel it is good for me to get other folks point of views. But when they get nasty with some folks taking repeated shots at our current president with basically every thing they type, I think they have crossed the line. I despised our last president but he was our president and as such respected him and the office he stood for. And no phil does not need to be allowed back unless he only shares his story writing ability.

    No.

For the same reasons Sharon and others have said. I have been able to learn or offer help in many things outside of just hunting and fishing.

I’ve always looked at IDO as a family, in a family not everyone agrees with every topic. If it’s not for you, move along. But family is also there to give and get advice, and help one another. I have seen people offer up help for everything from driveways to drywall. People who have offered to go and help each other. People offering to give or lend things to each other. You lose that if you wash it down to strictly hunting and fishing.

No-I have received great advice on deck stain, tires, lots of stuff besides fishing-keep politics out everything else in.

Thanks for asking for the input of users JJ.

I’d say no, just enforce what the top of the page says.

I’ve seen it suggested that sometimes the threads that end up in the gutter could’ve been shut down a page or two sooner and I would agree, a lot of times the disparaging and derogatory comments are going on for awhile, often by the same guilty parties. Also, I like the idea others have said about reporting the problem-users and possibly a short-term ban or “timeout.”

No. I don’t post often, but read and enjoy most of the posts. If I feel a thread has gotten too far off the rails, then I won’t read it (hasn’t happened yet). I believe this site is the top fishing forum available and that the “extra” topics help drive traffic and, therefore, longevity to the site.

Wowza. Granted I don’t spend much time on the hunting side of this site but based off of the comments on threads you would think there are about 150 members. Seems the same folks show up. Guess, as this thread somewhat illustrates there are a good amount of people who just read the posts and don’t respond much. Glad to see such a large group!

    No.

I appreciate hearing other people’s point of view. There are a number of people that are on here just to get people riled up. I think it would be better to dust them and not the threads that need to be discussed.

    I agree with Joe. NO

Nobody is required to read any post. When they do, they do so willingly.id venture a guess most of the topics that get “sporty” are pretty obvious. Don’t go there and get surprised you ended up but hurt

How would you like to define “active”? About 900 users within the last week, the 16,827 goes back 6+ years.

Yes Yes Yes ..look at this post is already 5 pages long..the way fishing report USE to be when I joined. There and many many other social media sites to talk the political BS and NOT on here. Look back 10 years ago think about all the guys that use to post their catches and make fishing reports. That is basically gone from here. Someone would make a great post with some fish they kept and guys would constantly bitch about people keeping fish!!! This is not the sight it use to be because of a select few of jealous people that have a crappy life and all they want to do is BITCH and argue their point all day long. Too much time on their hands I guess.

Think about the name of this site…IN Depth Outdoors…What would a person new to the site think about the list of today’s topics?? I suggest we keep it about the outdoors and leave the political BS to Facebook or the other news media sources.Lets keep this about the outdoors and get back to sharing stories and supporting each other on successes !! My 2 cents

I’m changing my initial vote. I originally said yes, but would vote for a conditional No.

Follow the forum guidelines about politics. That statement at the top of the site page is rarely enforced. Dust the topics asap when they’re seen or take a turn while warning the poster. Repeat offenders are booted without question. Posts about food, gardens, vehicles, renovations, etc are fine. The Covid topics, protest topics, the long gone Kaepernick topic, etc should be axed immediately.

I think this sums it up nicely. Although I find some of the political posts amusing and I sometimes enjoy the debate, I think by and large they make this site worse and serve to pull us apart rather than bring us together.

Just create a political forum for the snowflakes to beat each other up in.

I would agree with this and crappie55369 follow up post. One thing most are not thinking about is from the moderators view point. If political/current event post are allowed it will open the flood gates and their time invested in moderating will rise accordingly. A outdoor enthusiasts forum does not require a great deal of time moderating posts or at least it shouldn’t. But you allow the political and current event topics they require much more moderating unless they just drop the reins and let anything go.

I think the mods here would prefer to spend more time participating in outdoor activities and not have to worry about the forum turning into a Minneapolis dumpster fire.

The ratio of political to non political threads is small right now. But nearly each one had to be shut down after a number of pages. If those threads are allowed by November you will have a sheeet show here.

No. Invite more moderators if extra policing is needed to keep threads from going off the rails.

Respect the opinion, but is it possible that this is because our world has completely turned upside down the last 4 months? Our country is literally coming apart at the seams I think it’s only natural to discuss it.

Agree with your point that it’s natural to discuss but where? Does it have to be here? Ex: As an avid Canadian fishing fan I participated in the border threads. Starts out factual and helpful. Then deteriorates into some Trudeau sucks, Trump vs Trudeau, Trump is an idiot, Canadian gun control politics, etc…

Now I’m scared to even click on a Canadian fishing thread because it turns political, off topic, and keyboard pissing matches.
