Unless I got this guy confused with someone else, I do believe it is “Fife” who made the cool video posted on our forum from Mille Lacs.
Way to go Fife!

Congrats guys, looks like Justin from Waters & Woods Insurance did well also.
Thank you!
I didn’t get any good footage. That lake is tough on equipment, so I couldn’t find a good way to mount the cameras.
Too bad you couldn’t get any video but after reading through your descriptions of the 2 days, I vicariously was able to imagine it in my mind, other than hitting the deer. (Were you able to get a permit to take that back home?)
Anyway…congrats

We didn’t go back to look for the deer. The roads are skinny so we pulled over shortly after in an approach to check everything. I barely saw a dent but my Dad got an estimate of $2000 to fix it. Could have been way worse. The deer are everywhere up there. Here were the scorecards:
Congrats Dan and Rod ! Looks like a lot of hard work an time on the water has paid off.

Congrats!! That is great.
I have a couple of questions regarding that format. What is the protocol for entering a fish? With the protected slot, how are they documented? Are the weights from a chart, or actual? Witness in the boat to verify? Immediate release?

Anglers are given a memory chip and a Judge ruler. Fish are caught and a photo is taken on the approved ruler. Then a photo is taken of the person holding the fish and the fish is immediately released. The photos always have to be the same orientation so that you can’t just flip a fish around and take a second picture of the same fish. Lengths are rounded to the nearest 1/4″ and then the weights are determined from a chart. The anglers identify the 5 fish that they want scored with an x on the card and then at the end of the day the photos of those fish are analyzed to confirm that the lengths are recorded accurately and if there are any doubts about fish they are analyzed for unique markings. It’s the perfect format for lakes with a slot because every single fish counts.
Congrats!! That is great.

Will does a good job of describing it here. If you want to see the actual process, here is the link of a video Fife posted on this forum of the MTT tournament on Mille Lacs that obviously had to be all C&R. If you watch you can see their photo process of the fish on the board as well as the exact side shot of each fish. Plus it’s a cool video…

Thanks guys.
IMO, that’s a great way to hold a tourney! The guy that catches the most big ones can win. Better than a kill format by a long shot, IMO.

This is exactly why a lot of us tournament fisherman have switched to formats such as these. Not to mention it’s quite rewarding to explain this tournament process to a local who previously may have felt these tournaments are killing fish out of “his or her” lake.
Little Late but congrats again on the win. And nice work Justin! Looking forward to next season already.
