It has been decided this year will be same weekend as last year February 15-17 weekend.

The host resort again will be Red Door on the north shore. I have been in touch with them and they are very excited to host this again.

There will also be happenings at Barnacle’s just down the road. wink

This, like last year is not officially sponsored or promoted by In-Depth Outdoors and is only an informal event bringing IDO fans and forum members together for a planned event. (Hopefully I have given proper disclosure as to not place any liability on In-Depth Outdoors… )

Red Door does still have occupancy for motel rooms, cabins, and sleeper fish house rentals for those hoping for those accommodations. They did warn that those openings may begin to fill once the ice season commences soon.

Red Door does not require any advance payment or deposit. Provide CC info to secure your reservation and you pay when you arrive. Make sure to review their cancellation policy.

    http://www.thereddoorresort.com/

There will be door prizes and a planned social gathering Friday and/or Saturday afternoon/evening.

And yes, I did copy and paste most of this from last years announcement. blush

*To explain the venue selection process, there were suggestions to try a different resort and it was carefully scrutinized. After some anguishing considerations, I had to choose the only resort that offered the motel room opportunity for those that do not have wheelhouses or want to commit to a sleeper house rental. And after last year, we had 5 motel rooms booked for this event that provided lodging for at least 9 attendees.

Giddyup, prepare for icing some jumbo Mille Lacs walleyes… woot

applause Well done Andy. It’s very generous of you to take the lead on this. From following last years event it seemed to be a success! I’ll look forward to following the thread as it unfolds.

Blocking it out on the calendar! woot Hope to hang more this year. We stayed in the motel and did the run n gun on the lake and only had the opportunity to chit chat at Barnacles.

Bringing a wheelhouse this year so hopefully we can set up shanty town somewhere and venture out from there.

That said, hope the bite is better. Three of us ground it out pretty hard last year and only managed two ‘eyes. Mine being a 18.5” at sunset after throwing everything in the tackle box down the hole.

Well Valentine’s day would be Thursday the 14th. If your birthday is the 15th, that’d be Friday…not Saturday.

No matter…if your fish house is rockin, we won’t be a knockin… wink

    Paul,
Yes…I did give Appledoorn’s a serious consideration. I know you have a top notch operation there and recently added the new quad motel rooms.

When I did an availability search for our chosen weekend…2/15-2/17, none of the motel rooms were listed as being available?

Do you have another event going that weekend or did I do something wrong in my search?

Sorry Andy my bad…..Wedding that weekend.

    No worries Paul.

In fact I’ll make the official announcement now.

The next year…2020, we will have this event at Appledoorn’s! That’s assuming we keep this going, and I certainly hope we do! Already looking forward to that now. yay

For this year though, just want to give a heads up when I went to make reservations for motel room at Red Door last night, there were 6 available. Now there are 5 after my reservation.

I know it seems early (maybe because it is) but if anyone following this is looking to stay at the motel, probably want to reserve now. Again, they do not require any pre-payment or deposit…just a CC to secure the reservation. Just review cancellation policy because there may be a cost if cancelling close to the reservation date. If ice conditions are not favorable for accessing the lake, you will not be charged and no cancellation penalty. We had this fall apart 2 years ago. sad

Any questions or requests, please let me know and I’ll do my best to facilitate.

For anyone interested, the cabins at Red Door are top notch also. Spent a few days in one this summer and it was really nice.

I’m trying to work my schedule around, but it’s not looking so good. I’m going to try and swing down there for a few hours Saturday if I’m unable make it for the entire weekend.

WTH!!!! Don’t do this to me man! I’ve communicated with @Walleyestudent Andy Cox, seems he’s having trouble being able to post. He’s not sure what happened or if he’s booted,or what. Maybe an admin could look into that. But he’s still got a room booked, and raring to go. Who else is greater than 75% sure they’re coming. Either way I’ll most likely be somewhere on the lake.

dang, sniff, whimper, moan, once again, the stars arent going to align for me this year either.
the blue coats confiscated my still, stole my inventory,( bet the fishtards drank it all),sad part is I just ran off a batch that would of gotten me there pronto as it measured in octane this time instead of proof,I bet it would of ripped yer head plumb off !!

I know every ones summer is busy but its too bad we cant do a gtg during open water season??? or,I know !! I could get divorced and move up there !!
maybe IDO needs a resident technician,or,I could bake cookies for Dean??

Well Sheldon, actually we did. Just last year…an open water GTG at Red Wing, down on the river. BK was promoting it big time, he even put out it out there on FB for all his friends and followers.

Merican Eagle made it along with redneck jr, and a few came earlier that were not fishing. Sorry we missed them ’cause we did some angling.

Good time with Nick (nhamm) who’s banished from this little world. Too bad I say, and who cares anyway… whistling

But I do…here’s to nhamm and me, catching fish and knocking ’em down… toast

I get ya Andy,I miss nhamm,pool2fool and others as well,I learned a lot from those guys more often than not.
I am surprised my silliness hasnt gotten me kicked off yet and I hope that forgiveness can be given those guys.
oh well, the last thing I learned from them is I sure as heck will never buy a custom rod from anyone, instead,I will save my money and carve out my own from a hickory stick just like I did when I was a kid,now thats custom !!

    Well…?

A week from tomorrow will be when we all GTG for 2019. toast

Unfortunately there has not been near as much enthusiasm for this as there was the past 2 years, and ironically 2 years ago after all the anticipation it was cancelled due to poor ice conditions. sad

Oh well, perhaps this is on me for not bumping the post more or not doing better promoting it. That, and I know there are some missing pieces from last year. whistling

Regardless it is still a go, there will be at least a couple of us there.

Given the limited responses, I’ve cancelled the clown show, animal petting zoo, fireworks, and free food and beer. frown

So, if anyone else has had a casual thought about coming, there will be something to come for.

Reply here and/or PM your text # and I will connect with you about what and where. Still thinking about something Saturday afternoon at Barnacle’s for GTG fun. yay
