Aaron Bye (@aaronbye) was down here last week as you may know from the micro fishing topic. He wrote up a nice expedition on Roughfish.com that recaps the trip better than I could.

    Opportunity Knocks
    CAUTION BK! Snake picture enclosed.

The second trip was quite the adventure. 3 miles to our spot in some sketchy, but beautiful terrain. We lucked out a little with it being dry down here, it may have been too difficult to navigate the grassy areas otherwise.

I wish I would have tried harder to get a red breast, but I have a hard time not targeting bass. And at the end when I finally gave it a last ditch effort, I caught about a dozen coppernose, but couldn’t get a red breast. It could have been because I was using a jig head? Could that have been enough to spook the reds?

Here’s the area we fished to give you an idea of where we fished.
    Google Maps

The bottom middle of the page is where we fished. The upper left part of the page where is says Little Big Econ State Park on 46, is where we parked. If that spot was half the distance I may rethink my swearing off of never doing it again.

Most people have my posts mentally set to ignore. coffee

Those pictures of the coppernose are sweet. The weird thing is most of them look nothing like a bluegill if you see them swimming in clear water.

True that! They will likely be separated as it’s own species eventually. They are cool. Like a the stripes of a perch on a sunfish. The white tips and stripes are really easy to tell what they are swimming around.

Wow, those Armored Catfish will give a Grayling a run for the money in the dorsal fin category. Are they common throughout Florida or just in the mid and northern regions?

    Nice fish!

I am pretty sure they are in most of the peninsula.

    Nice fish!

My understanding is that Orlando is near the northern range. They are common in many areas of Florida. They are a pain to catch as well. They are native to south america and were released as overgrown aquarium fish. It is very sad to see the natives get pushed out of their habitats.
