IDO GTG- Mille Lacs

Due to the interest in multiple Get Togethers, and having one on Lake Mille Lacs, I spoke to a few fellow IDO’ers and the Red Door Resort to put something together. So we will be hosting the official unofficial IDO Get Together- Mille Lacs Edition on February 24th and 25th. Red Door has reserved a number of cabins, motel rooms, their largest 4 bedroom cabin, and plenty of bar space for this event. For anyone who wants to bring their sleeper house, the Red Door access fee is only $10 and very close to some of the best fishing on the lake.

A few important notes on why this date was selected, this is the last weekend of inland walleye fishing in MN so a great way to send the season out with a great group. Also, this is the Perch Extravaganza weekend out of Hunter’s so if anyone wants to fish that all day, and meet up for dinner and drinks after please do! Please book your room as soon as possible, and any rooms not booked by end of January will be released by the Red Door to the general public. We are also working on putting together some door prizes, so if anyone has anything they or their business would like to chip in please PM me.

Who: Any and all IDO forum member’s or viewers
What: Get together for fishing talk and success stories
    When: FEBRUARY 24th and 25th
Where: Red Door Resort (ph# 218-678-3686) on the shores of Lake Mille Lacs (38421 MN-18, Aitkin, MN 56431)

Awesome…that this came together so quickly! Thanks for taking charge BigWerm…Cory!
I will for sure plan and look forward to it. Probably stay at my place which is about 10-15 minutes from Red Door…although if any fellow attendees book a sleeper out there, I might appeal to share cost, beer, and Mille Lacs expertise. grin
Time to sort some things, but Red Door does not have a bar…so would we setup somewhere and just BYOB? Also no restaurant there other than the old Waypoint cafe which I believe would be limited so plan for a dinner Friday or Saturday night…where?
Also, any plans then for January 28 down in Wabasha or Lake City area for an IDO outing?

Cool!!! I’m excited as I spend almost all of the ice season on the Big Pond. Should be a good time. It’ll be good to put some faces to names. Is this a 2 day event or full weekend event? Either way, I’m sure my ugly mug will show up at one point or another. toast

Thanks Kory for setting this up!

I am planning to attend on the 24th and hopefully the weather will cooperate for us to get out as a group and do a little ice trolling.

On Saturday I will be Perch Extravaganza with ICE FORCE if anyone is able to stop over and say hello.

Hold onto your jigging rod Andy, but the Red Door DOES have a bar, and soon a restaurant as well. They re-did the Waypoint Café, and got a liquor license. They are still working on the menu, but I was told today that they should be fully operational by the end of February. For sure they will have beer, and if the full menu is not ready it will Heggie’s for everyone!

Is this a 2 day event or full weekend event?

I’m trying to put together door prizes for Friday AND Saturday night, and I plan on fishing Sunday also there just won’t be any events.

dang it… will be in Cozumel that weekend… crazy

As much fun as the GTG will be, I’d be happy to trade places!?! rotflol

Cool! I hope they didn’t get rid of the Mac’n Cheese bites. They were my kids favorite! Anyways a heggies there or back at my shack, either way I better eat something before I go to bed that night, LOL. I’m laying the groundwork to weasel out of a Devils lake trip that might be that weekend. If I can I will be there for sure. Thanks also to you BW for taking on this project. I’m sure it’s no easy task to plan.

Haha I’ll make sure to mention the mac and cheese next time I chat with them Drifter! Happy to help organize, I’ve been talking to Will and a few other sources about some door prizes, which should be pretty cool! My avatar pic was a 26.5″ I caught on Mille Lacs last year this weekend, but don’t hold me accountable for any fish biting!

Fair enough I guess. If anyone talks to the fish prior to Feb 24th, please remind them of the shindig. They sure know how to drink! rotflol rotflol rotflol

Hey Kory, I was just going to PM you but decided to post here in case any others were wondering.
Out of curiosity, I checked Red Door website and they were still offering the motel rooms at $70./per night. I was wondering if the proposed IDO GTG offered a different rate (not that I have any objection to the rate listed online).
Just wondering if I need to call or if I could just book online. I did that for a family vacation last summer.
Either way, I have cleared Friday off from work and am planning on attending both Friday and Saturday (unless the whole group heads over to Hunter’s Perch Extravaganza?)
    Which could be rollicking! yay

I do not believe there is a different or discounted rate, due to the Extravaganza this is one of their busier weekends and the Red Door were nice enough to set some rooms and cabins aside for us. Thanks for checking though.

I’m in. Is this family friendly?

Yes, but probably not later in the evening… toast

Here’s the general idea so far. Friday and Saturday night meet at the new Waypoint Café at the Red Door around 7, and we will have some door prizes that will be drawn or won (biggest or smallest fish etc.). This will allow everyone plenty of time to do what they’d like fishing-wise during the day, and plenty of time to tell some true-ish fishing stories afterwards. Also, the info on the Perch Extravaganza is below, and anyone who is interested should be able to fish that all day and make it back to Red Door in the evening if they’d like to do it all.

    Contest Rules:

    $20 Button Purchase Includes:
    Entrance to fishing contest
Lake Access thru Hunter’s Point Resort

    •8:00 am – 2:00 pm
    (2:00 pm sharp cutoff)
•Weight Station at Hunter’s Point Resort
•Perch must be alive to enter
•Top 10 Perch by weight (coin toss on ties)
•1st Place fish is property of contest
    •Contest is lake-wide
•Must have button to be eligible for weigh-in
    •Must be present for prizes
    •Judges decisions are final
•Drawing follows contest (no purchase necessary)

The Extravaganza is a blast! If you have never been there, check out this vid:

The perch contest is part one. The button raffle is the major attraction. For $20 bucks you have a shot at an Ice Castle, 4 wheeler and tons of great prizes.
