I like the Mille Lacs idea. That way people can come and go all weekend. Lots of other establishments nearby to patron, lord knows they need it. I know I don’t feel comfortable pulling my wheel house out on some river backwaters. If you go out of a resort they will have a pretty good pulse on ice conditions. I’d say it’s 50/50 wether I attend or not so don’t change anything on my account but just wanted to put my vote in if it ain’t too late.

I have not ice fished in years but if it happens to be in Wabasha I will get my nephew to go. He has all the ice fishing stuff so I can loose his equipment….. works for me.

Well with the “headlines” that there is an IDO GTG at Mille Lacs end of February, has the January 28 possibility down in Wabasha/backwater been pulled off the stove top?
There seemed to be a fair amount of interest for this with a number of votes and offers to help arrange matters.
I would still be very interested in attending such an event being that I have yet to get down in that area for any type of fishing, let alone ice fishing.
I still have that date, January 28 planned for an IDO GTG if it comes to fruition! wave

“Lake Pepin” isn’t really known for it’s Winter walleye/sauger bite. The best bite once it gets cold is from the open water, well North of the lake. There are a few residential walleyes and saugers that you may randomly catch through the ice, but the majority of the fish seem to head upstream. There are very few places on the lake where I would take a large truck and 16+’ wheelhouse with the current and springs.

The backwaters in the area are endless. The tip-up fishing for pike can be great if you are willing to hike, and panfish are easy to locate. There are some very accessible community holes that produce a large number of fish – with the more remote areas providing numbers AND size.
