IDO Gathering This Spring

I was really hoping to coordinate another unofficial IDO gathering in 2020 but the “thing that shall not be named” got in the way of that. And it appears that thing is still going to be present for 2021. So I am proposing coordinating a spring gathering at a park! That way we can all be outside and no worries for reservations or venue capacity regulations. Two questions – would April or May be better? Weather-wise May would be better but I know there’s a lot of fishing openers for both MN and WI in May, so I’m thinking April might allow for a better turn out. Second question is location. Anyone have a nice park suggestion? I would prefer to keep near the Twin Cities area but would be willing to venture north/northwest for an hour. wink Let me know your thoughts!

These gatherings are unofficial and just meant to be a fun way for anyone who wants to gather and meet fellow IDOers and say “howdy”, whether you’re part of IDO Fishing, Hunting, Ice, or all three!

I would love to attend and finally get to meet more of you guys. Not sure on a good park depends on what type of park we are looking for, the Coon Rapids Dam has nice facilities with areas to grill and gather. I believe it is a pay to get in park though.

I 2nd the osceola landing idea. Its a nice area with lots of good shore fishing. Public grills and rest rooms. Plus boat launch. Tables and shaded areas.

That backwater warm up in spring or stay frozen?
Be nice to find a park on a trib for sucker run. Right away I think of where the rum dumps in.

Count me in Sharon. I’ll drive, you could fit a lot of your apple pie in the back of my truck )

Might have to bring some hippers and a fly rod.

It would look good in the parking lot but as I recall it’s not a place you want to launch it.

One other option may be Schroeder park in Wright County. Not sure on date but they open up end of April. Have a nice beach picnic area boat launch and camping.

That time of the year on a high water year yes. But I can struggle with my 18 aluminum. Right were you launch is a deep channel can offer good fishing. Up and down river get shallow fast.

My wife and I will definitely try to attend, hopefully on a Saturday? We would make it a weekend adventure.

Might want to consider it the second half of April. We’ve had major snowfalls the first half of April now the past three years.

Unless of course weather isn’t an issue.

Thanks for the replies, guys! Well we can certainly plan more gatherings at the other suggested locations, but I’m thinking this one can be at the Osceola Landing.

Let’s plan for Saturday, April 24th. As the date approaches we can nail down details like time and who wants to bring what to share for snacks. I’ll of course be bringing my apple pie drinks and various baked goods. So for now please save the date! waytogo
