As of January 10, the Brainerd Jaycees found 11-12” of good clear ice throughout the contest site on Hole in the Day Bay, Gull Lake, near Brainerd, MN. Safety of the participants is the number one concern so event officials are monitoring the event site carefully and recognize that the mild weather conditions are concerning. The 5-10 day forecast is favorable for making ice and the Brainerd Jaycees are confident that the 16″ requirement to hold the event will be met. In past years, this event was held on 10″ of ice without any issues so tournament organizers are being prudent with the minimum amount of ice needed to host the event. The Brainerd Jaycees plan to hold the contest as scheduled on Jan. 21 but will release an event update on Jan. 16. Official event announcements will be released on http://www.icefishing.org.
