So today, I had no class, and with nothing but midterms tomorrow, I decided to make the half hour trip down to Waupaca to hit a lake that I have had my eye on all year. At first, I found fish on an 8 ft. weedflat, but there was NO size whatsoever. After searching the whole lake for three hours, I decided to go for broke. I took the auger and went in SUPER shallow for that lake. The lake is 68 feet deep like a pit, and I was in 4 feet of water with the ice. On the first drop, I was met by one of the nice crappies in the picture below. Kinda fun when they barely fit up a 4″ auger hole

Needless to day, it became an awesome day in a quick hurry. Kept enough for a few meals, and was letting the usual 7″ keepers go by the end of the day One suprise was the little pike a managed to hook into when the bite all of a sudden died…fun on the ice fly setup.

By far the hottest bait was a #10 gill pill in clown. Put on two spikes, drop it a foot under the ice, and you could watch your jig disappear.

Great day on the ice. Now I just can’t wait for Spring Break next week. Panfish beware

Get after it! And good luck!

That pic with the crappie was a timer on my phone. Didn’t work out like I thought it would….
