My favorite spoons up there are some CJ&S slender spoons, Stop signs, also Rattlin flyer spoons and frostee jigging spoons. All in the 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz range in red, pink, yellow/ orange.

    I can validate this one!
Was up last weekend. Pretty much limited out each day for 7 guys. Green/Chartuese JIGS were the primary ticket.
Did pull some fish from shinner chubby darters.
shinner were the ticket if you could find them. The typical 3-4″ live shinners. You won’t find them up there. Black Duck was the closet spot for them.

    For example……
We were catching plenty of dink saugers. I found a shinner in the minnow bucket. Hooked up to a chart jig, pounded bottom, and within 1 minute, pulled up a nice 16″ eye. Shiner was still alive, dropped it back down. In 3 minutes, pulled up a nice 17″ eater eye. Shiner was gone. Hooked up a Shiner colored chubby darter and in 10 minutes, hooked a nice 15″ sauger.
The other 2 guys in the house never caught a fish during this timeframe. No fluke……bring up shiners.

But the pinks and greens outshined the typical golds.
Orange whistler jigs also produced some better class walleye-toss backs.

    Glow red did ok.

We went out of Shusters. What great accomodations!!!!!
AWESOME MEALS (BBQ Ribs, PERFECT Prime Rib, GREAT Pork Chops).
They set us up about 1 mile out of Pine Is.
    Fish caught all day long.

Smaller jigs/spoons seemed to produce better.
Sometimes bobbers were the ticket throughout the day at different times over jigs/spoons.

Largest fish was a nice 27″.

    Hello Tom:

Depending on where they go, I think the bite could be different. We fished the angle south of Oak Island this past week with fish’s mood being the greatest indicator of what worked and what didn’t. A surprising number of good fish were taken on Gold B-Fish’n Tackle 1/4oz. blade baits, including some nice smallmouth that were biting. Most of the rest of my fish came on the red vertiglo Lightning spoons in 1/4oz, and the 1/4 oz “Lake of the Woods Special” Slender Spoons in gold/white-glow.

If they’re mobile, all the better. For the most part the bite was slow, and certain pieces of good structure held only small fish and sauger. Definitely a sign to get packing and move to the next reef. Deeper areas up to 30 feet proved to be the best for us.

Another thing….get live bait and don’t bother with the frozen shiners unless they’ve been brined. Even if you’re just tipping spoons with minnow heads, use the live bait. The frozen stuff simply disintegrates.

Good luck and let us know how they do!

Yes they are taking sleds and portables to keep mobile.

I also told them to pick up some shiners on the way up.

I sent about 30 different lures of mine with them to cut down on what they might have to purchase.

Figured this would give them plenty of options.

    THanks Joel.
