My buddy has a older auger that will only cut good if it is on 1/2 choke. It will idle just fine but when put under load it cuts out, 1/4 to 1/2 choke and cuts???? It is a early 90’s Tecumseh.

Mine was do gthat the first time out this winter. I put in a new plug and fresh gas and it ran fine after that. That’s a cheap easy place to start.

Carb and plug…plugs are cheap and carb is easy I would just do them both sure won’t hurt anything.

Knowing Josh, I am guessing he has tried the plug & fresh gas? …..

Little seafoam might help, could be crud in the carb.

I agree with snag— Sucking in air is must liking your problem. Try and tighten down bolts on carb. Good luck!!

    your problem is gas starvation.
That is why you have to 1/2 choke, to even out the gas-air mixture. By choking, you are restricting air.

    What will cause this:
Bad gas, as it won’t ignite.
Old plugs, as it struggles to ignite the fuel.
    However, primary reason is:
Check fuel flow, such as filter. Seafoam will also clean out passages pretty decent.
