I have tried many types of specific made for ice fishing lines and I have settled on Trilene Sensation which is not touted as an ice fishing line. I use the orange or green (which makes it visible outside of the hole and easy to manage) and tie on a small swivel with an 18″ – 24″ flouro leader. Make certain to use a very small swivel so your flasher does not pick it up on the screen. I downsize the leader as well…For panfish, I use 4 lb Sensation with a 3 lb flouro leader.

I’ve been using Cabela’s fluoro this year and have been pleased with its performance.

Im a fan of Cajun Red Ice line. Been using it for about 4 years now and I like it a lot. I’ve tried 2lb, 3lb, 4lb and never had any complaints.

I really have a lot of confidence in Berkley Vanish when the technique calls for something other than a braid / superline. When the technique dictates a braid I usually reach for Fireline Crystal.

This topic arrives 3 times a year. I love to sit back and read the responses.
The last 4 years now I have tried hard too play with a number of lines. Ice lines, Pline and on and on

My spinning reel spools of Trilene LX 2-4lb always find themselves seated back on the reels sooner or later.

Guess I’m old school but the stuff really does work well year round for an Ultra Light line. I do change line between seasons and believe this helps no matter what mono you use. With the price of LX 300-500 yard spools you can afford to change even more often if need be verses the price of other lines.

Berkley, do I need to say any more? 2# I use vanish, 4# & 6# I use XL, then very seldom I will spool up a braid and it is Fireline Crystal 8#.

They all get the job done.

The bread and butter lure for panfish is undoubtedly the teardrop. These inexpensive little jigs have been responsible for more limit catches than all the other lures combined. If you’re fishing for bluegill, crappie or perch you better carry a few teardrops out on the ice with you. Most teardrops are approximately the same size and shape so the only thing you’ll have to decide is which color to choose.
