Got a question for someone who might live over in central WI. I have had my eyes on Petenwell all year, and I have Wednesday free of classes to fish. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where to go to get some walleyes and panfish-never fished this lake before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a GPS and a chip ? ? If yes this is a great tool
Petenwell is huge 23000 acres I believe. That’s a big body of water but fish can be caught even by a newbie. With the water level dropping I would not drive a vehicle on the ice right now 4-wheeler or snowmobile only. there are some decent spots with in walking distance of shore depending on how much snow comes tomorrow and the next day it could make walking not a lot of fun. I would get on at Long View Point if you are walking out. There should be people out fishing in the river channel which is where you want to be. Rumor has it the bite has been tough all winter over there

I have heard that it hasn’t been a very good year out there also. Would anyone have any suggestions within an hour of stevens point?

Talked to a guy recently who has done well on Lake DuBay on the Wisconsin River north of you. His advise to me was to find the channel edges nearest the shorline. Better chance of finding wood there, thus finding the fish. Otherwise find deeper water near the entrances to the back bays. Fish should start staging soon for the spawn. Good luck, and let us know how it went.
