On the ice this morning started my solo up & let run for the 2 mins that’s recommended by manufacture.
It drill one hole fine, then feel gut-less and boggy on the next hole!

What’s the deal this Auger is only 3-4wks old, the gas is 92 octane & I’m running the strikemaster smokeless oil at a 40:1 ratio.

It is a possability that the carb jets are set to run colder. This might sound odd but most augers are set to run a bit rich because most people will start drilling as soon as it starts which requires a bit more fuel for cold operation.

I would suggest trying to cut holes as soon as it starts and see if it gets weaker as the engine warms up. If that is the case a simple carb adjustment might need to bee made. No offence but I would let someone who knows the carb screws do that.

Its just a thought, I have seen it a few times. Good Luck, Mark.

Check to make sure there is not fuel or another obstruction in the breather tube. A quick fix on the ice is to crack open the gas cap to let in air and then close it. When you get home you can clean out the breather tube.

Did you take the choke off?

Sure could be a choke issue.

I have been using a Solo for 2 seasons. I run Amsoil Sabre oil in it and I let it warm up maybe 20 seconds and then drill away.

    Never an issue to date.

The Sabre oil is awesome and almost smokeless.

Amsoils Saber works great, I run the same mix in all of my 2 cycle motors, between 40 and 50 to 1. No smoke or oil on the muffler. Throw in a little Seafoam and you have the perfect mix.

My guess would be a vapor lock or some sort of blockage in the breather tube. Take that cap out and see how it runs. If it runs fine it probably is clogged.

So the breather tube is the clear hose coming out of gas tank resivor, when you take gas cap off?

Looks to me like a overflow hose………

So let’s say it is vapor locked for some reason, what’s gonna keep it from happening again?

Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Chris you run Strikemaster all day every day, have you had this issue?

Yes I run the Strikemaster SOLO everyday. Last year my auger was bogging down similiar to how you described one morning. When I took the plug out of that clear hose it ran perfectly. If I recall correctly I put a small pin through the opening on the cap and placed it back on. I’ve never had a problem since. SO……I’m not 100% sure if it was vapor locked or what, but that worked for me. Might want to give it a try if it happens again. I believe it is likely a gas related issue of either not getting gas flow or getting too much. Start with that breather cap first. If that doesn’t correct the running problem you might want to call Heather in the customer service department of Strikemaster. She is great to work with. I am sure she’ll direct you to one of the mechanics to give you more ideas. Likely not something serious.

If I remember right they have a new filter to remedy this problem.

Is the filter a recalled item?

I’m not sure, give strikemaster a call and they will point you in the right direction.

I have had my 3hp solo do this exact same thing a quick turn of the gas cap prior to drilling hole #2 has resulted in a smooth running auger, this is a mid season fix for me. Once the season is over it will go back to strikemaster for a quick fix or repair. But during season I am going to do whatever necessary for minor problems to keep me on the ice.
