Red Rocket Bluegills

Got out to my favorite bog on Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday it was me and my Dad the bite was pretty good. I was so caught up in the nice weather and a day on the ice with my Dad I failed to take the camera out for any pictures

Thursday was a little different as fellow IDO’er John Schultz made the trip up to fish. We started out about 9ish in the fog and drizzle with a pretty good wind blowing. Not to dampen our hopes while the bite wasn’t as good as it was on Wednesday John still got a nice bunch of fish to take home. Now you say “what is a red rocket bluegill”? The term came out as we were fishing anywhere from 9-11 FOW we would notice some of the better fish would be suspended about 4-5 feet down. I decided to commit to that zone only jigging my Diamond jig in that area when all of a sudden a red mark came blasting off the bottom all the way up to smack my jig . I said it looked like a red rocket on my LX3 We moved around quite a bit but found camping out and waiting for them seemed to work the best once you found a decent spot that held better quality fish. Here’s a couple pictures from Thursdays outing. Thanks for coming up John I had a blast

The sun was in my eyes.

Thanks for having me up Pat. It was a good time even though the bite wasn’t fast and furious all day, the red rockets made for some fun when they were hungry.

I can also say its the first time I’ve ice fished to the sound of .50 cal machine guns in the background.

I would say that about 25% of the ones I cleaned were really blue, like the two in the picture. Not the coloration we normally see around Madison.

Wait until you hear the dragon going off. That makes a 50 cal sound like a pop gun.
