Recently made it out for about an hour and a half for some gills and maybe a couple crappies. We were fishing in about 18fow and the fish were tight to bottom and getting them to bite was a chore. Im thinking it has something to do with this cold weather. Anyways, we were tipping red ratfinks with a waxie and that didnt seem to be very productive. So, i put on the smallest size buckshot rattle spoon and decided that hopefully the rattle with bring in some fish. Sure enough, i ended with only two dandy fish. One 8.5in gill and one 11in crappie, both were released. If any of you are looking to catch bigger fish and forget abbout the smaller ones, put on a spoon or bigger jig: swedish pimple, buckshot, or even a forage minnow. That will help keep the smaller ones off your hook and put bigger ones on the ice. Check out our video on the website below. Tight lines everyone!

nice fish and cool video. My only concern would be that you left the crappie lay on the ice for some time before deciding to release it. That is a decision that must be made when the fish comes through the hole. Frost bite on a fishes fin can cause major damage to the fish.

Yes i know i did that. i was intending on keeping some but ended up letting it go. I am sorry. The fish swam away fine luckily. I would of kept it had it hesitated to go down the hole.
