What it be the strikemaster solo or the strikemaster strike lite 2??
I bought one of each this winter. Solo. I have the 3 HP. Although the Solo is about 6 lbs heavier the speed over the 4 stroke is amazing and it justifies the added weight.
Is the solo a better engine than the 4-stroke? Why would u pick the solo over 4-stroke?

I’m not sure I can pick one that is “better” as they seem to me to be designed for different purposes.
Here’s some of the differences… They’re both very reliable but they’re completely different power plants. The 4 stroke runs a 1.8 HP Robin 4 stroke motor. The 3 HP Solo is a 54 CC 2 stroke motor. The 4 stroker will be a little lighter at 23 lbs with an 8″ blade. The 3 HP with the same blade is 28 – 29 lbs. The 4 stroke motor is quieter and doesn’t smoke at all making it ideal for use in a permanent when exhaust might be an issue. The Solo motor is a high revving monster of power that cuts like no other auger I’ve ever used. You’ll have to mix gas and oil with the solo unlike the 4 stroke that runs straight gas.

Thanks James……what size blades you have?
I own 7″, 8″ and 10″ augers that I swap in and out based on species fished. More often than not I’m punching with an 8″ auger.
James I think you are my new idol lol! I don’t think I have ever read post from such a knowledgeable person ever! I really enjoy reading your post and watching your videos! How did you get to where you are at today? Seems like you are living a dream!

I have the LazerPro as well and according to their site the
8″ model weighs in at 26 lbs. and the Strikelite 8″ is at
23 lbs.. I went with the 3 because it weighed the same as
the LazerMag 2.5 Solo (8″). I hope that wasn’t a typo on the
weight of the 3. I’ve never actually weighed mine.

Why? Seems to be a lot of good/productive jiffy discussions around here of late.

The 8″ Solo is 26 Lbs. The 10″ weighs in at 29. Sorry for any confusion. Of course, like you, I’ve never weighed mine. I’m just going off “spec” weights listed in the catalogs.

LOL! Nah, maybe just a bit of jealousy!

If you don’t drill alot of holes I’d go with the 4 stroke.
If this is the case, I would go with the Jiffy Pro4 . No gas and cuts very well.
I just thought you had s post earlier on Mille Lacs for a report. Just was wondering how it’s been out their for u.
The Solo series is something we depend on up here all year. I have both a 2.5 and 3hp. I run the 2.5 on an 8 inch auger bit with the 3 hp interchanging an 8 and 10 inch auger. BTW the 3hp 154 with a sharp 8 inch bit……FIRE IN THE HOLE!! WOW!!
solo if you like to drill holes like me… I love mine! if your gonna be in a perm and not drill as many holes go with the strike lite. Either way your gonna get one sweet product!!
I have been running an 8″ Lazer Mag Xpress for the past couple of years. Works fine for my purposes.
My brother who lives in Winona, MN just bought the 8″ propane model Jiffy. Since I was down there this past weekend, I gave it a good work out and was quite impressed with it.
It started on the first pull every single time, drills thru 16-20″ of ice in no time flat without bogging down (another words, it has plenty of power) and there was no need to wait while it warmed up, just start drilling.
The Jiffy propane model definitely has way more power than the Lazer Mag Xpress in my opinion.
The one draw back, it was heavy. Quite a bit heavier than mine. I don’t know what Lazer Mag Xpress weighs nor do I know what the Jiffy propane model weighs. I do know that the difference is enough that I won’t be buying one though.
But other than weight, I liked it.
for me weight would be a game breaker. I’ve been so happy with my 6inch laser and Craftsman drill combo that I only break out the laser mag when I’m tipup fishing.
Jiffy!…Is there another ice auger company??? I have the pro4 propane auger and have never had a cylinder freeze at all this season. It uses a high pressure regulator, so it actually sucks the fuel out of the cylinders as opposed to pressure needing to build up. I’ve fished some days that were -30 degrees without freeze up, so I think this is a mute point.
