Looking to buy 2 new thorne Bros rods. Considering one 36in with fly reel handle and one 28 spinning-fly reel handle. Will use fly reels on both. I will be using for croppie and gills small jigs. Which rod power noodle or quiverstick? What length and why you like the specific rod. Any help would be appreciated. I will be purchasing next week. I want an inside and outside rod. one of each

Why not a 30″ of each. Long enough to fish outside but still short enough for using in your house. I’ve got 2 powernoodles, one at 26″ and one at 30″. Lets just say the 26″ will be a backup. For me the powernoodle takes the place of a springbobber. I’ve got a 30″ quiverstick too and use that for working aggressive fish, my favorite panfish rod for sure but they both have their time and place.

I feel the power noodle is a better rod for detecting the bite visually, but the quiverstick is better for feeling the bite.

I think im going to get a 36 in quiver stick with fly reel only handle and titanium guides and I would like help deciding on how to build my power noodle. Im thinking 28 possibly 30 or is 30 too long for a power noodle. They both will have fly reels on them, Should I get a fly reel only handle or spinning fly reel handle. I will probaly use these to for my outside run and gun rods. Please help thank you

30″ isn’t too long, like I said I have one at 30″ and love it. If your using these rods in water deeper then 15ft I’d put spinning reels on them. 2 of my thorne rods have fly reels and they take way to long to get my jig down in deep water. As far as handles, I like the 5″ handle on 30″ and shorter rods. You might even consider the 4″ handle. Cork is light weight but that 1″ difference in the handles is easily noticeable while holding the rod. This was pointed out to me by Pat Smith from TB the other day when I was there.

If you wanna pick pats brains call thorne and ask for him. He has helped me more then once with rod choices. He was the one that showed me the fly reel handle.

I will ask you the same question he asked me. Do you hold your reels pistol grip or on top of the handle?

So what is the difference Trav? Do you find one just easier to hold onto with the longer handle or is it more of how they balance out? I would guess that maybe even guys would choose different handles if they plan on wearing gloves outside as apposed to not wearing gloves in side a fish house.

Guess I have never put much though into ice fishing rod handles.

The weight in the handles is the difference. By going with recoil guides you are getting a lighter rod, so why not make it even lighter by going with a shorter handle. Also, the points you brought up should be taken into consideration as well.

Just got a call from Lonnie, my PN and quiver rods are done. Both 29″, PN has 4″ handle and quiver has a fly rod handle, now need to find time drive up and pick them up along with some suggested TB’s special baits. Both set up with Ti guides so can use in or out.

Like Fishwater, I have a 32″ Power Noodle with outside guides, but mine has a 5″ handle on it. I run a fly reel on it as well. I have said it before and will say it again, this is the first rod out of the tube every time I hit the ice. It is absolutely perfect. If I was unfortunate enough to break it, I would immediately call the shop and order another one. My next rod will likely be another 32″ Power Noodle just cause I love them so much. With several customs flanking the ship, the Power Noodle is still far and away my favorite.

I talked to Lonnie today. My 2 new 30″ powernoodles are being built right now. Single foot recoils with 4″ handles. I ordered these way back in the middle of September. I can’t wait.

Last year I got my very first TB rods ever. Both 28″ one Power Noodle w/outside recoil guides and a Quiver Stik w/outside recoil guides. Definitely the two best ice rods I’ve ever owned. I run a Okuma fly reel on the Quiver Stik when the water is shallow. And I run a Abu Garcia 100u on my Power Noodle. I have two more ordered 1 of each again 28″ models for the wife. I had them made with pink wraps. If your gonna get two rods get one of each !!!!

I guess I’ll let the dust settle for a while and get a PN
to use along side the Quiverstick as well. The Made in America
aspect of these rods pleases me no end, Americans can still
    do it right.
