not that I care that much, pretty much have used all the power augers except the Nils, they all do the job of getting through the ice faster than a hand auger. When we have 4 or 5 trucks seeking out schools of perch on Winni, Leech or Mille Lacs, each truck might have a different brand name auger in the back, when our North Dakota friend who owns an Eskimo, will walk to a truck to grab a Strikemaster to punch his holes, it says to me his preference is an auger which starts and stays running.

Just to be clear… I have not or will not comment on the quality, attributes or durability of an Eskimo auger. I don’t know anything about them. In that type of situation, where I have no first hand knowledge of a topic, I tend to keep my mouth shut. I wouldn’t want anyone to think my continued involvement with this thread is in any way “anti-Eskimo” or cutting down the product in any way.
As Tom Donaldson would say… “what I know about the subject could be put in the hole of a cheerio… and you’d still have room for milk.”
On the other hand I do find icepro’s take on how the fishing industry works to be very interesting.

funny how some people think what any one person says is the end all. personally i will take advice from a “fishing pro” that has never seen an eskimo on the ice with a grain of salt. thats like being a truck driver and saying you have never seen a dodge pickup driving on the road, and yes i sincerely doubt any $$ spent on augers. you think kobe pays for his shoes. dont be IGNORANT. not to be a dick but money talks.
I have never, not once, seen an eskimo auger in use on the ice. Ever. Lots of Strikemaster and Jiffy. No Eskimo. Believe it or not. I couldn’t care less.
Now, in the interest of continuing to watch you dig that hole deeper…. here’s the deal. I’ll email you the invoice on those “free” augers that cost me $800.
Do note that each one of these augers, I bought two, cost me MORE than an eskimo. My choice is clear. As you put it “money talks.”
Once you’ve received that invoice, looked at over, and let it all sink in I’ll expect a follow up post from you where you offer your tidbits of wisdom and a further assessment of the way business works in the fishing industry.
Not that I give a hoot what you say or think but I’ve got a hunch that admitting your wrong is something you’ll find incredibly difficult.
So, let me know. I have that invoice for those “free” augers sitting right here next to me ready to go.
LOL! LOVE it, James. I don’t know why everyone gets the idea in their heads that us pro-staffers have stuff just given to us. It’s simply NOT TRUE!

If it was my wife would be a lot happier person
With that said….I sure hope when I die she doesn’t sell the stuff for what I told her I purchased it for

I know I have been in the industry for 15 years and I don’t get get things for free. Pro staff may get discounts but not a whole lot given to them. Thats why I love seeing icepro dig this hole he is in
Like my old man always told me THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH IN AMERICA.

i think icepro needs a dictionary for the word contradict
apparently you do too. you spelled the same way.
You spelled it right just used it wrong
January 26, 2011 at 3:46 am #930473hey smart guy. con*tra*dict-definition: to assert the contrary or opposite of. geeez can we just agree to disagree, to each his own. all started cuz i said “wow alot of people have problems with their SM augers”. bottom line, all augers are just simple small engines and most people that have ANY knowledge of how an engine works could probably fix 95% of any problems on ANY make that come about with the tools in their bucket while still on the ice, with no call to cust. service. nothin against anyone(james), i like your show. nor did i mean to question your “expertise”, just caught off guard with the whole never seen an eskimo comment. that is just strange to me coming from a pro staffer cuz i see em all the time(daily).
squash it. .for the record due to work schedules i ice fish more in 3 months than all other fishing in 9, and i fish alot in the 9 so my augers have most definitely been through the “ringer” Pat. thus meaning i know a thing or two as well, and also that i go ICE fishing more in a couple weeks than you do all year, maybe even more than james.

arklite881southPosts: 5660January 26, 2011 at 10:14 am #93050975 ice fishing guide trips last year looks like about the same this year. My search and destroy team……..All Strikemaster augers. Never have seen 1 Eskimo auger on the ice. Strikemaster and Jiffy. In all honesty never have seen a Nils either for that matter?
With all due respect attempting to discredit a pro staff with false assumptions and strong opinions will likely not go well for you. I assure you as I hold a PRO STAFF for Strikemaster augers I can boldly state this position is not as important to me as operating with a DEPENDABLE AUGER with my clients. Most guys worthy of a pro staff position likely depend on these augers on a daily basis. Some may deem this extra time with the product worthy of an opinion of the overall dependability and perfomance in review to others. Now it surely sounds like you fish daily the whole ice fishing season, but you might admit this is pretty uncommon unless your working within the business as a guide or television host. For future reference it might be wise to know the facts prior to bantering. Things just seem to operate a bit smoother that way around here. In general we all get along pretty well on IDO, and I for one am glad for that!! We share good information and try keep the bickering somewhere else. In Depth Outdoors represents a group of pretty classy guys who have a shared passion for fishing. Many of us also have beliefs regarding the products which we depend on allowing us to efficiently participate in our chosen sport.
I have NOTHING against any auger company I assure you. This is not about being against something or someone. I have no time for that game. I will say that I likely run more guided ice fishing trips than any other licensed captain in the state of Minnesota. I depend greatly on my Strikemaster Augers (I have 4!!)I assure you if I didn’t like them I’d probably stop buying them. Our Augers are all designed for different puposes. Electric for permanent house drill outs without the “FOGOUTS”, and then 2 seperate “SOlO” augers. 2 and 3hp with one equipped with a 10 in auger bit for Pike fishing. Lastly I have my old lazer mag that I just can’t hang in the cabin to retire!!
I won’t say that I have never had an issue or needed something fixed on any of my augers over the years. A statement like that is simply ludicrous in the reality of the ice fishing world. Ice fishin equipment operates within a very harsh enviornment. What I will say is that beyond being what I feel as the dominate auger company in the industry they also dominate customer service. For me….putting a dominate product on the market, and then standing behind it receives gold stars across the board.
Hey lets go fishing boys!
January 26, 2011 at 11:19 pm #930780See what this ice has done to us! Lets just get out our boats and forget this all happened.
