Love my 10″ bit. Makes it hard to fish out of 8″ holes. ON the down side, your foot and leg fit down a 10″ hole rather easily. Along with a lot of other things.

This is what I did.. buy a 8 inch…If after that you decide that you need a bigger hole…depending on what you fish then try and find just the 10 inch attachment. I found a 10 inch attachment for about 60 bucks and its just a simple large allen wrench away from being switched. I figure it will only add to the cost whenever I want to sell the dang thing anyways. Good Luck

Had a ten for years. Just sized down to a 7″, love it.

    What is your target Species?
If you are thinking big trout and Pike then maybe a 10″. Pannies and walleys come throught an 8″ well. Eyes over 20″, I guess would be “nice” to have a 10″ bit. Thats just me. -Mark

Like mark said it kind of depends in your main target species. I like the 10 for eyes and running tip ups being its easier to turn a big fish up a hole but for panfish you tend to lose more crappies in a 10″ hole because if they come off at the surface of the water they can turn pretty quick and down they go. 10″ holes can also be dangerous if your not paying attention.

If I am carrying the auger and drilling the holes through 2’+ of ice…. then I like the 8″ but if my nephews are along then I like the 10″

I vote for 8 unless you plan to target big pike or trout.
The smaller they are the easier/faster they drill and like mentioned before 10 inch holes can be dangerous.

Depending on the weather for the day , on warmer day I use the drill and the 6 inch but with the coldest days I use the 8 inch and bigger because the holes freeze up too fast on the 6 inch.

10s are nice, dang near open water fishing. i went with the 8. plenty big enough for big fish. i have seen HUGE pike come thru 6 inch holes before though.

I like the 10! might as well be a grizzly! its just a lot easier to turn the heads of the big eyes and get em to come up the hole. Once you use a 10 you will never go back to an 8. But if you are the person who drills a ton of holes, hole hopping around and whatnot the 8 may be a better choice.

I utilize the 8 most days unless flagging pike, but am seriously considering going to the 10 full-time next year. There is little doubt you have a better chance landing the big fish with a bigger hole. Case in point was last nights heartbreaker just as we were set to pick up.

I had taken heaters out of the portables and was in breakdown mode. I told customers “Keep fishing”. I heard FISH FISH FISH! I hustled back into one of the portables watching the infamous LONG up and down thumps of a big walleye. We couldn’t see down the hole due to the time in the evening. Just as the fish was about to go topside she must have caught the edge. Spit the spoon in my face!! In theory I believe we would have tipped her “Topside” with a 10 inch “Circle of Trust”. So 95% of the time 8 is prime for most anglers, but when that occassional freak fish breaks your heart it is my theory that Bigger is still Better.
