original vx1 question

i have an original vx1 that i picked up used and when i’m fishing by myself this thing blows my fl8 out of the water in my opinion.

my only complaints are that its not picking up jigs in deeper water real well. when i’m fishing in deeper water, i’m usually with a buddy who is using an fl8. i have to turn the gain up significantly to see my jig and in turn causes alot of clutter. a few punches of the IR get it to go away somewhat but its still there slightly blinking at me.

the ducer bottom is pretty clean with like 1 or 2 scratches. is it possible the scratches are the culprit. they aren’t gouges just minor scratches.

or is there any other possibilitys or is this just how the older ones are.

    thx.

I don’t know if this will make any difference or not but may be worth a try. I’ve noticed with mine that when the ice gets thicker and my ducer is closer to the edge of the hole than maybe it should be , I get some type clutter on the flasher. As you center it up in the hole it seems to go away. Often tmes lowering the ducer will bring the same results.

I have a VX-1 and have a similar problem when the ice gets thick and letting more cable out to get the ducer either near or under the ice seems to help. There is still clutter if I’m in realy deep water when I turn my gain up but I’m usulaly using large baits for either eyes or lakers if in over 30ft so my gain stays down. Hope this helps.
