Thinking about purchasing one of these for use with my HDS 5. Anyone here try this thing out at all? I’ve never used anything besides my flasher for ice fishing and don’t really know how a “normal” depth finder would read for sitting on my butt fishing. Any pros….cons? Seems like the unit would be quite the battery drainer, but having the built in GPS of the unit sounds nice to me.

I’ve been looking at purchasing one as well. I have a 522c that I think has a flasher mode. I’ve heard that the units work pretty well but are not so easy on the battery. Do the HDS units have a flasher mode?

I have used my HDS5 for ice fishing for 2 years now. I love having gps and sonar in 1 unit. When I started using mine, you could not find the Lowrance kit. So I built my own kit with Lowrance and vexilar parts. I use a 9 amp battery and have had it last 8 hours.

The HDS does have a flasher mode although i’ve never bothered using it.

I’m not sure…unless you fish alone a lot maybe the new ones are better, but my 332, plain sucked.

Couldn’t get said of the interference with a lx3 or fl-18.

I would not recommend it. I purchased one last year for my 522 and all I use it for now is the map. Too slow on flasher, not worth the money in my mind. If you wanna use it as a map, I would just buy a Genz blue box and mount it to that. Just my .02

It takes a bit to fine tune but once your dialed in they work Fabulous.

And you use Graph mode not flasher!

This is a true statement for all brands
What ever it is you purchase you need to play around with all features to understand the best settings for whatever it is you are using

I have used the flasher mode and it is not any thing like a vex or marcum. The normal graph works great,Once you get the sensitivity set and get used to using it.
